Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

Got my UK Passport renewal back in just over 1 month...not bad considering how far the documents had to go. Email updates at every step of the way.

It doesnt mention the King either!

Adult renewal, application was lodged last Wednesday afternoon in regional WA & received notification the new passport was posted this morning.

Renewals seem to be very quick at the present time. I lodged last Monday and I had it in my hands 8 days later. That's in Darwin too which usually takes an eternity to get anything.

Pretty disappointed they don’t send the clear plastic passport covers
Agree, the blue covers tend to curl.

..........
Mine issued recently in March 2023 still had the Governor General being the representative of QEII.
Anyone got the "...being the representative of King Charles III?"

............
The biometric chip is in the polycarbonate data page - its antenna is 3 bronze coloured lines to the right side near the transparent edge
.........

Each page of the passport has hidden Australian fauna. When seen under UV light a nightscape version of the page is revealed along with the hidden animals.

Extremely pleased that passport processing back to normal.
Shout out to the workers at the passport office who have obviously worked extremely hard to get to this stage.
Far too often, we hang s*** on government departments but in this instance they deserve some credit and thanks.
Well done

Pretty impressed with new passports, kids first passport and got it in 13 days including weekend.
Good to hear. Pre-12 months ago was pretty good too. 10 days.

There were a few cranky reports about delays when the barn doors were opened last year.

Looks like US citizens are having the same problems with passport renewal we recently endured.

Including “… The passport backlog has grown in recent months as Americans unleash pent-up wanderlust and take trips abroad that they couldn’t earlier in the pandemic …” Too many have left it a bit late

retty poor form of the quality.
I think the quality is good, it's just that the covers have a laminated plastic layer and it curls due to humidity changes - making the paper side slightly longer. But goes back to the point - where are the passport holders like we used to get.A1A03C7E-8065-4269-9B7F-25481647ED2B.jpeg

renewal on Monday
Likely you will get the Governor General... blah blah.,, reoresentative blah of King Charles III

Thanks for the info. I like their use of the word "slightly". Should be "the cover of my passport is curling significantly" ha

Lucky I still had a few from previous passports so have slipped them in a holder.

Couple of questions if I may:

  1. Did you take and upload your own photos or did you go to Aus Post?
  2. If you happen to also hold an Australian passport, did you send that along with your completed application or simply include a photocopy?

Hi @Rebus
We had Australia Post do the photos ($19.95) on the spot. No appointment required at our local PO.
Just took the completed, printed application form to Aus Post.
They sighted our current passports and returned them to us ( I believe the corner is supposed to be cut/clipped but ours were not)
Photos taken on a Monday midday, text by Wednesday and delivered on the Thursday, this was late March and we live 80km from Melbourne CBD, pretty impressive we thought.

Rebus I went to Aust Post, paid for the new photos, got a digital copy as well as some real ones.

You had to send old UK passport and photocopy of current Aust Passport...EVERY page!! Which annoyed me as it was brand new unused and empty, the data page would be fair enough. I cut the pages in half to Passport size to save weight and size so there was no "blank" paper

They sent the old UK passport back to me with corner cut off...and my blank Aust photocopies.

I dont live in a Capital city...dont know why guy above just had to show his and not send it to England??
