Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

It seems that every time I'm in the Post Office, there is someone applying

I was at a Melbourne inner suburban Post Office on a Friday morning at 0905 hours. There was one person ahead of me: he was applying for a first time passport. By the time he finished, the PO queue had built up to half a dozen, even at that early hour, as Australia Post deals with large volumes of shoppers every day for multiple reasons. Better though to do this in the morning rather than from 1500 hours onwards on weekdays when one can encounter the Amazon etc. sellers sending numerous parcels.

According to multiple Australia Post staff, applications are 'going gangbusters' after extremely low levels for the past 25 months.

Bali-driven surge?

My renewal was 12 months ago. 14 days from application at the Post Office to receipt of the new passport. 😀

But things were different then. 😉

I applied for passport for my kids last week. Will advise how long it will take for them to get the passport.

Going to ring them to see whether I can change delivery to the pick up option so I don't need to wait from Aus Post.

I received an email that my passport had been posted by registered post. Only after then is any further delay due to Australia Post. In my case Australia Post took a couple of business days.

It was three years, but as I post currently it can effectively be up to 6 years (Adult).

I thought it interesting that, for me at least, my expired passport was the only ID I needed when I applied for a new passport in person at a Post Office.

Our recent experience...
my wife used the renew process online and at the local PO for pics and submitted 23 Feb, and got the new PP (dated 28 Feb) in the in post 8 March.
Came quicker than we expected.

Yes this is now standard for expired passport holders.

So question is in 2022 has it taken anyone longer for expired passport renewal than the stated upto 6 week period?

We applied for our passports just over 4 weeks ago.Still waiting.

I love to travel -"Same here. Going to ring them to see whether I can change delivery to the pick up option so I don't need to wait from Aus Post. "

So yesterday I was thinking maybe we could pick up our passports from Brisbane Passport Office if nothing happens soon, but I then got this email =

Your passport is on its way!
We're sending your passport by registered post.
Your passport should arrive within a week.

And it has a tracking number, so this morning I looked at the tracking, expecting it coming from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast NO !!!

Our passports are coming from DANDENONG in Victoria !!!

So dont think your passport application goes to the nearest Passport Office and that you WILL be able to pick it up !!!

Probably just as quick for Oz Post to deliver to the home/postal address rather than have them deliver to the nearest Passport Office for collection.

Edit: I understand that all Australian passports are produced in Melbourne

How long did it take after you lodged it?

But Oz Post delivers to the pickup location (Passport Office) anyway. I don’t see any delivery time advantage, either way.
