Passing of a Monarch

The 6 tall fellows that stood out for me were the 6 naval fellows immediately in front of the gun carriage. They were head and shoulders above the others.
Must admit to being moved when the lone piper played at the funeral service.

The people throwing flowers at the hearse must surely be giving the driver a bit of a scare. :(
Princess Di’s was covered in flowers. Had to put the wipers on!

I was thinking this. Did they move the crowd further away from the car as most flowers thrown didnt make it to the car but Diana's was covered in flowers/hitting the mark.

And did I imagine seeing a empty follow up hearse at some point? It was much further back but looked like one.

Im not a parent but I dont understand why you would take a 7yr (Charlotte) to a funeral, especially one where they have to perform stoically.

The crowd was very close in Diana's procession. Her death was a shock and so I think that changed peoples reactions and thoughts of what the crowd might do. Now the authorities knew what to do. The Queens death was sudden as it turned out, but expected, and left a hole after a reign of 70 years but always going to happen. And so meticulously planned for safety. I also think that in these days throwing 'missiles' whatever their nature would be much discouraged.

A British correspondent said today he'd seen the funeral plans pre Covid. The county was to be completely locked down for 10 days. Post covid they knew that the economy would fail if they did that and people couldn't face another lockdown. So they were wound back.

My niece and nephew aged 6 and 4 attended my grandmothers funeral. The only reason I didn't take my 4 year old was because my grandmother was like a second mother as she lived with us and didn't want to have to deal with him if he played up as well as keep a lid on my grief. My great niece and great nephew of a similar age also attended my mums funeral and it seemed right.

Also. Did anyone else notice Harry wasn't singing God save the King when the camera panned on him just at the end?
I noticed but he seemed to have zoned out and be staring off for the few times the cameras panned to him

Apparently Joe got his (very long) car stuck outside a Pret, and was late so had to sit at the back.
Love pret a manger.

He sure got a back seat at Westminster. Imagine the guy sitting in front of him and turning around and realising he got a better seat than the President.

Apparently the Commonwealth has precedence over other nations even the US
Yes. I understand they were seated behind the Royals. But I didn’t see Albanese et al enter because they weren’t identified on Sky News. Can’t believe that the UK PM wasn’t known by the Aus TV crew as it was bleatingly obvious as she arrived on her own (with husband) immediately after the past PM’s were gathered to be seated.

Our PM and partner filed in with other Commonwealth leaders including NZ PM. I was amazed at the very high heels worn by many of the women (royals as well) - can't imagine they are comfortable or easy to walk in.

And I do wish media would stop hyping William and Harry interactions - becomes very tedious.

Agree about the heels and their very slim ankles. I heard them announce Jacinta Adern and Trudeau but no mention at all of Albanese. I guess the former two are much more well known internationally.

The Princess Royal was probably pleased to be wearing flats as part of her Ceremonial Dress uniform noting the distance of the funeral procession!

Yes! There was a spare hearse, presumably in case the main one broke down!

I thought that was pretty good contingency planning.

I was thinking just that when I saw what I thought was the one hearse sitting under the arch; 'What if it has a flat tyre?'
Well, with a 2nd vehicle in convoy they could of-course do a 'hot-swap' and continue almost as if nothing had happened.
