Passing of a Monarch

Yes and all the family are on their way to Balmoral. 🥹
I suspect we were hoping she’d hold out for at least 4 more years for the telegram from the Queen…☹️

Interesting fact about Bath. Princess Victoria made her 4th public apperence here but she was described as dowdy so she never came again. If the Royal train went through Bath the blinds were closed so she never looked at the city.

Despite voting 'Yes' in the Republic referendum I also feel that sense of loss. She came to the throne 2 years before I was born and it could never be said that she shirked any of her responsibilities and duties.

Watching ITV News in the UK right now. Apparently the Queen will lie in state at Holyrood House, so our visit to Edinburgh next week is potentially going to be full-on.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II will have a profound impact on Britain. My daughter had the honour to work for the Queen, mainly at Buckingham Palace, for 2 years, and has only ever had the utmost respect for her. It is hard to imagine that Charles III will ever get close to achieving similar respect amongst his subjects.

I will always vote yes for a republic but respect to the Queen who always performed well as a monarch and put country first.

I guess our currency will be changing as well and maybe a tour next year from King Charles? Very strange to say King Charles.

I might rewatch the Kings Speech this weekend, a small reminder that Elizabeth wasnt born to be queen.
From the script,
Lionel Logue: Perhaps he should change jobs
Queen Mum: He cant
Lionel Logue: Indentured servitude?
Queen Mum: Something of that nature, yes.

When I went to bed last night it was fairly obvious that HM the Queen would probably not survive much longer. I recorded to BBC overnight to see the announcement. A very sombre announcement.

The Queen worked until the end swearing in her final PM.

The passing of QE2 is the end of era, sad for many.

But hopefully we will now get another referendum on becoming a republic before the year is out. A lot the no vote in the 1999 one out of respect for Queen Elizabeth but far fewer will want Charles as their monarch, he is just not respected by many at all.

Monarchy in fighting might give the gossip rags fodder, but the time as a uniting force is over. The role of Monarch has been ceremonial for my entire life, and will now hopefully become irrelevant here.

Oh please no. Perfect opportunity to remint coins with a map of Australia or the coat of arms on heads side.

I was thinking, while her father was likely never to be King, as his brother had no children, then Elizabeth would have still been queen without the abdication.

Sad day for all.
