Passengers on lightning-hit Qantas flight delayed on Gold Coast

I agree with you there. I can understand the logic, that they see OOL primarily as a leisure destination hence converting it over to JQ despite giving loyal QF customers the no. 2's.

However, as this highlights, if things go pear-shaped and its use for diversion en route they're pretty much stuck. Virtually no ground support or backup from JQ for their planes, no coordination, nadda.

Mind you, I would have thought that QF would have had buses there to reposition pax well before 11pm, if the reportage is correct that they landed at OOL just before 8pm.

Indications are the buses may have only been arranged after the aircraft was declared unserviceable at around 9:30pm,

It's funny, because not 6 months before they pulled the pin on the twice daily SYD service, the QF rep told me the service had finally become profitable for the first time in 10yrs.

Being the cynic I am, my theory is that withdrawing them had more to do with being able to close the QP and hence cut off JQ pax who were the main users of it, I could be wrong, but I just smell a rat.

Sure it is a primarily leisure base, but with the growth on the GC, there are alot of people, myself included who instead make the drive up and back from BNE to fly QF simply because I prefer them.

Would be nice to see 1 or 2 services a day so at least I could choose to connect through SYD to MEL, ADL, PER, which wouldnt be much more hassle than driving the M1 and gateway to BNE.

guru, have you tried the train service, it's a direct service from your end of the system.
