Passenger believes they are entitled to va Lounge after flight delayed

well, when our recent flight syd-sing was delayed by about 4 hours and we were issued meal vouchers. which i think is a decent level of compensation

We travelled extensively with our kids all around the world and even as babies. Managed it all without lounges or calling in social media.....although it didn't exist. Just all seems a bit dramatic to me.

People who choose to breed already get a massive handout from society in terms of rivers of free government money, tax breaks, subsidised schooling for their little brats, etc. And now they expect to be allowed into airline lounges as well?

Give me a break!

Really, not relevant and none of your business.

Kinda of relevant, I have 4, 1 is an absolute angel, 2 can have their moments, and the final one can be a little terror. How difficult travel is with them can depend on a lot of factors, some within our control, others outside it.

Simply put, even as a parent, you can not possibly know what is happening in other parents lives or how easy their children are to deal with. Some parents get it easy, whilst others really have to work for it.

I don't know if this was tongue in cheek or not (honestly I don't care) but I hope you never plan on retiring, because the moment you retire you're now expecting other people's (now adult) kids to keep society running on your behalf.

Those "hand-outs" as you call it are a minuscule fraction of what it actually costs to raise a child, however I know that when I turn 65, I'll have done my part in ensuring that there is a generation of people who will keep society running when I put my feet up thanks in some small part to the efforts I put in now.

I don’t understand why a story of one person behaving unacceptedly turns into a critical bundle-on of what people / parents should not / do according to AFF experts.

How magnanimous of harvyk to deliver these great benefits to our society.

Seriously though, the age of entitlement has to end. They are your kids and you are responsible for tending to their needs and nobody else.
And interestingly is a person with many children more deserving of lounge access than someone with just one?
FWIW harvyk I have 2 children (now adult). One was always the 'good' one and the elder one was always more 'difficult' (and I hate to ruse that word). As it is, he is an adult now and has suffered from schizo-affective disorder for over 20 years, It takes a lot of my energy just to support him and keep him alive, so harvyk don't presume to know what I go through,

5 hours! You lucky, lucky ba#*ard! (borrowed from Life of Brian).

It takes me a day and a bit to fly 1600 miles .. every fortnight.

I get the difficulty travelling with kids, +1 and I have some doozy delay stories (including a blown engine being replaced whilst we waited, an engine "service" on the tarmac in front of us and a turn back due to engine fault in flight) but VA have always been good with vochers, in my experience.

Bite the bullet and move on with life.

I'm sorry but this is the 'entitled parent' syndrome. And yes, I had children so I do understand.
All you parents out there can attack me all you like.
maybe an inexperienced flyer syndrome? Although I get very cranky on Ms FM’s behalf when things go wrong for her, that I would just suck up if they happened to me. The mother lioness definitely come out in me :)

I think half the problem is that airlines spin a picture of airline travel that in no way measures up to reality. I expect delays and problems and try to factor them in and am grateful when it doesnt happen (and I see my luggage on the carousel), but I didn’t start out like that.

But ... but ... but ... children are difficult, man, anyone who has CHOSEN to have children must always be given absolutely everything for free because otherwise they might be inconvenienced! Inconvenienced!
How can you even entertain the idea that a person who has chosen to increase the human population of the world be inconvenienced?! You monster!

Could you please point me in the direction of getting everything for free, it'd really help with the budget? :p

I certainly didn't say anything about getting stuff for free. In fact the child endowment payment disappeared not long after child one, and there was no childcare assistance at all so when I (for financial reasons) had to go back to work a fair chunk of my wage went on creche fees for 2. Certainly no money over for holidays for quite a few years. I think that parents possibly have some (note that word) things easier than we did in the 70s/80s.

A comment I recently made on another post addresses my thoughts on the harder now equation:

A few weeks ago I was having a robust debate with someone (who has no children of their own) about what it's like to be a parent these days in the age of surveillance. I was trying to explain that it doesn't matter what your own opinion is about the best ways of raising your kids is, if it goes outside what society deems is normal you're potentially in for a bad time, even if legally you're in the right.

I've lost count of the number of times I've been out in public with my kids and I've been wondering who is judging me, who is ready with the phone if one of the kids has a melt down and I don't deal with it in the way they would expect. I've had to defend my actions to complete strangers who felt they should have an opinion lest they call security on me.

Parenting in this day and age is challenge beyond what I think our own parents had to deal with. Whilst there has always been busy bodies who feel that they should have opinions about other people's lives, the issue with these days is that they are now all armed with camera phones, ready to record and take out of context anything that happens.

/Rant

The fact that we're even discussing this about some strangers, were everyone is having their opinion on if they were right or wrong, watching branch into thoughts on parenting itself, kinda proves my point.

I have my view but YMMV obviously.
