My 15 year old is on an overseas school trip later this year, and on the return leg, is leaving the tour to join us for a holiday. The travel insurance his school provides ends of course when he leaves their tour, and I'm struggling to find travel insurance that will just cover him from the moment he leaves the school tour until he returns to Australia with us a few weeks later.

I'm trying to avoid having to take out cover for him that starts from the moment he leaves Australia with the school tour, as he is already covered by the school for the first (extended) part of his trip.

I've spoken to a few travel insurers, and they will only cover him from the date he leaves Australia.

Any ideas of insurers who might provide the sort of one-way cover I'm looking for?

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have done this with 1(one) Cover travel for a person that had already been overseas for a couple of months. I never had to claim however it was easy to do. Insure4less are another company that does it.

Just to close the loop, I reached out to both insure4less and 1cover and both will provide my son cover under 'Australians already overseas' cover, and 1cover notes that the cover can only be taken out after the person is already overseas. However, in coincidental timing, the school reached out to me today to say that their insurers were happy to extend my son's cover for the family part of the holiday for pretty well next to nothing. I want to thank everyone for their contribution to this thread --- this is what makes the AFF forums so great :)
