Paper Airline Tickets...on their way out??

No definitely did not select a paper ticket. E-ticket is much simpler for me. I am actually a little confused as to the excuse I was given when i called QF as I have heard conflicting stories here previously.

When I asked why this was not an e-ticket as I provided my e-mail address, when it was required, I was told that all tickets from QF Singapore website are paper tickets. Oh well, no great drama as long as it arrives sometime next I am OK.

You wouldn't want to do the booking 1 or 2 days before going overseas.

May be a cunning ploy by QF to discourage bookings made on that site by Aussies. Do any of the specials ex SIN have a rule restricting them to Singaporeans? (I'd be very surprised if there was but some Thai fares for example are limited to Thai nationals.)

Last time I flew LA on that route, maybe a year ago, they said they were switching to e-tickets soon.
Definitely still paper, unfortunately.
Was issued with a paper ticket on Friday.

Not sure about specials. I booked a normal airfare from QF Singapore website and as far as I can tell there is no restriction on where you reside, although Singapore is hard coded as country when asked for mailing address.

I was not told over the phone that I cannot book these fares, just that paper ticket has already been sent to my address.

JohnK, What's the Flight number for the BNE-SYD sector? Is it possible you're on a codeshare with either JAL (QF374) or Air Niugini (QF352) for that sector, hence forcing a paper ticket?

QF374 as it offered this option and much better clearing immigration in SYD then clearing immigration in BNE and travelling domestic to SYD.

I wouldn't have thought a codeshare flight would trigger a paper ticket. Or is it non-OneWorld codeshare that is the problem? Has anyone ever booked online the QF codeshare on the AY flights SIN-BKK or BKK-SIN? Is this an e-ticket or paper ticket?

QF374 and QF352 are not e-ticketable. Some other QF codeshares are e-ticketable such as the AY one you mentioned and BA codeshares. Depends on the route and the airline.

Bingo!

FWIW, mrs serfty's one-way V class ticket on QF10 SIN-MEL in Jan was an e-ticket ... methinks that Qantas agent was simply trying to get to thir next call, thereby increasing thier personal KPI's in respect to "I was told that all tickets from QF Singapore website are paper tickets".

You could be right. Only reason I called them was I did not receive e-ticket, has happened before with domestic and international bookings, and wanted them to e-mail one to me. This is when he said that it has already been posted and when I inquired why, he mentioned because I booked on Singapore website.

He did spend a fair bit of time with me on phone as we also discussed my allocated seats and upgrade options as I cannot request upgrades online due to paper ticket being issued. Make up your own mind.

Maybe the guy simply did not notice the QF number was a codeshare or something.

When I booked an award MEL-(QF)SYD-(QF)SIN-(CX)CMB last year I did not get an e-ticket option.

As noted, once non QF carriers get introduced into a PNR, the liklyhood of needing Paper Tickets increases ....

My DONE4 included QF, BA, AA and CX flights and was an e-ticket. So no problem with QF and CX. Your requriement for paper ticket must have been the CMB locaiton rather than the airlines involved.

Correct. CMB is currently non-eticketable. Though I have seen a post that suggest EK is introducing etickets for CMB soon so that may be about to change.

Strangely, Beijing is eticketable with QF, but not CX

QF Singapore sent my paper ticket to my Australian address in Singapore.

Trap for young players. If you book online using the QF Singapore website and it somehow triggers a paper ticket (e.g QF374 codeshare on JAL) then it will only be sent to a Singapore address. Not sure if you can get around this issue if you did booking over the phone with QF Singapore.

My paper ticket is now waiting for me somewhere in SIN airport. Where? Your guess is as good as mine. Just as well I will have 3 transits in SIN to try to locate it before flying back to Australia.
