Speaking of which, where is this bespoke P1 thread? Would I be allowed to set foot in it before I've ascended?

Jimmy, although I used to be a regular contributor (whinger?) in that thread, I cannot recall what it is actually called - something like "P1 experiences" or similar - will try to look it up. Essentially what the thread is about is P1's expressing positive or negative experiences that they have as a P1. It is NOT about how to gain/retain it, etc. Apart from a handful of lunatics that do status runs ( :) ) the thread is mainly engaged in by "normal" P1's - those who have to fly way too much for work and are sick of it, and a handful who do a few international trips each year in First.

One thing I like about this thread is that it highlights options for chasing P1, which I do not think has really been done before as a separate thread?? There has been so many discussions on QF status runs, but these threads have been useless (as far as P1 seeking) as they do not take into account the specific P1 requirements (ie running around the USA doing AA first is not helpful) So to hear ideas on best status runs that are P1 - compliant is great.

For the record, I have no intention of doing what some of these others are doing - as have been there and prefer the $ in my bank account. But I love it as an intellectual exercise, if nothing more :)

I am liking the discussion too. I’m also liking the seat block on my flights tomorrow in J but will it be filled by a staff member on standby? Probably.

P1 is fantastic even for the lovely people on the team who I email regularly. But it’s a product of flying because you need it

I always felt the same thing every time I engaged with the P1 team - that this is how every traveller would like to engage with an airline. Almost instant phone answering, replies to emails within sheer minutes, always, kind and friendly and competent Aussie staff that you deal with, etc etc etc. Sure, they cannot always create miracles, but when they are unable to get you what you want, you understand and FEEL that the failure is reasonable.

The P1 team is certainly a class act.

Why, they can even get your mere WP mate seated next to you in row 1 - and then carefully arrange for you to slip off to cavort with a babe and a bottle of Pinot Noir on a following flight - while I was left with an empty seat next to me...😜.

The babe you got next to you is what I really wanted all along.

Curses - foiled by the P1 team... :p:p

Found my post I made at the end of my year of P1, now that someone has brought up the thread. Will give you an idea of the value I achieved.

That is perhaps one of the most spectacular customer-service experiences I have ever had as a P1. When I originally asked them to sway things so we could travel together, they absolutely bent over backwards to make it happen - I was very impressed. But not half as impressed when they contacted me again before the flight and offered me another option....

They said that they knew me well from the profiles they keep, and as such knew I was a really nice person. And that they also knew JohnM. (They admitted to being flabbergasted by my apparent desire to sit next to "The Wine Snob") So they offerred to re-route me and have one of their really nice staff sit with me and ply me with wine. I did feel a tad of remorse, or reluctance, to change my flights, but in the end it truly was a no-brainer.

She was so very nice :)

B@@@@@@@@@@@@@@stard... :mad::p

Yes I am, but there is a flipside to this that hurt me - if you remember the moment. Upon arrival in HBA I was forced to say goodbye to the lass and instead join the company of you and Rooflyer. Surely you can imagine how hard that actually was???

We should have swapped... 😜

No, because she was a nice person, and I altruistically choose to defend such beautiful souls from the likes of you.

Damn - we are mere seconds from the mods raining down and claiming we have gone off-topic - but I do think that the event, sans the delicious company, is on topic. As a P1 I was able to get the SST to move a friend to the first row, prior to the flight. Seriously something i really valued, and would not even attempt as a WP.

Seems to me a mod should move the above to the P1 Experiences thread as it's a bit off topic :p

However Babes and Pinot aside, the above posts, even the entire P1 experiences thread would make it clear to anyone who waded through the whole thing that P1 is.. well.. like all of QF.. Inconsistent. Yeah I use that word a lot.. but I challenge anyone who actually flies with them more than a few times a year or deals with them to say otherwise. At any rate maybe my differing experiences as a P1 of five years are in part because I almost never have contact with them - I don't email them for anything(I call res direct) and only once in the past couple of years have I called because I was in a bit of a pickle that they absolutely got me out of very well which was wonderful. Yeah, I've had a few event invites (like the footy) and last year's surprise invite to use the CL (that was great!) and I have no complaints per se ... it's just every member seems to have different levels of experience. I mean I think I only got a phone call every 2nd year on requalifying.. now mind you I don't care but it does underscore that they can be... inconsistent.

I'm entirely self funded - not that that gives me any more or less license to expect anything in particular. I've gotten the published benefits and am happy with that.. The other stuff is cream on the top and I have next to zero expectation from them so I'm more or less happy.

Im based in / fly mainly out of Sydney. Apologies for any confusion due to bad diction or grammar. And levelnine is the name of the poster. Not anything to do with Houston. I will update / trip report this fanatical journey. I’m pretty excited. Again massive thanks to everyone here especially Matt. Once the journey starts possibly from this Friday we are on ! I will also share what routings especially as some promotional sale fares come aboard. An ltp challenge is the final frontier but let’s get to the magical p1 first. An insane challenge would be trying to find 7 figures travel spend for your company / personal to get Alan to give you a cl.

This challenge has given me grandiose ideas. If there is another DSC promotion, I think I might just book that ADL-BNE-CHC-BNE-ADL trip in J four times. That would earn 2,240 status credits for (at current fares) just under $5,980, enough on top of my booked trips this year to reach P1. My new year starts tomorrow.
