P1 status run- can it be done?

I wish i had $8.5k :(

For a long many years I didn’t either... , separation and buying into a severely inflated housing market & child support, it’s champagne tastes on coca-cola Income....

what with taxes, super, aforementioned child support, loans (P&I) All that drastically limits credit card points earning capacity

being one who Pays ahead freed up money otherwise spent on interest and got a loan interest reduction (cause in the case of banks there’s no reward for loyalty)
....

superannuation has worked as a great way to create vastly more than that..... or other people’s money (flying on the bosses Dime) plus curtailing excesses of over-consumption and trimming essentials all adds up

Good luck and make sure you post your experiences in the P1 thread! I did a few runs to get to P1 and ended up having work travel take me beyond 4,000 SCs (and just barely being able to gift WP). Avoiding Bali the options I’ve seen in the other threads tend to involve AKL or WLG.

I didn’t have any creative routings of my own, in the days of JASAs I did a couple of KTA runs and more recently DRW...
The P1 thread eh? Sounds exclusive.
Are mere mortals permitted to enter?

I might be but i want it levelnine. Im based out of syd. i miss those syd-bne-tsv stories i read here. Never done a status run but looking forward to the creative options!!!
You're based OUT of Sydney? Does that mean you're based IN Sydney? Level Nine I remember from Houston; is that what you're talking about?

You're not very bright, are you?

Enter at your own peril, you'll have to put up with for instance me whinging I get worse treatment than WP because FAs still can't seem to recognise P1s on the manifest
What on earth does "whinging" mean? Anything similar to the word "whingeing"?
Cheerio for now, and good luck with the spelling.

Bad grammar in this sentence. What you said is a statement; it is not a question.
Kindly explain.

Precisely about what are you whingeing about, GoldCanyon540, and why?

With the great loyalty QF shows us my reply loyalty is 1,200 SC a year and really dont want to plow any more money into them, BUT, I came across a few interesting legs that can rack up some SC's to get to the 20,500 SC i need to make LTP. Total cost out of pocket $85,000. A lot of money to spend on the old ego!

Weighing it all up I've decided to go for the "triple crown" this year, top level in the big three, OW, SA and ST. Almost 2 of the 3 done, ST a bit harder especially with the Chinese airlines down.

SkyTeam is the easiest of the lot IMO
Take the Delta Status Match from QF Platinum or Gold and that will give you SkyTeam Elite Plus. The status challenge is a piece of cake

How many QF flights do you envisage taking once you are a P1?

In 2018 I did 20+ legs, in 2019 I did 16 legs, this year will be another 20+ legs so I'm expecting quite a few as well

You'd have to pay me $8.5K to take that many flights. That would totally sap the joy I derive from flying, but each to their own.

I did runs in 2018 for WP, it was actually quite tiring doing 3 legs in a day and being in three different countries within 24 hours. I'm looking forward to these runs (bar the 70 minute transfers in DPS) because of how hectic it all is; maybe my assessment will change later.

When I hit P1 and don't get my flight sim experience I'll be sure to repeat your words

I think you are stark raving mad on one hand but I’m deeply intrigued on the other.
Do whatever makes you happy I say and I’m definitely keen to see a mini TR if you have a few spare minutes

Status matching is "doping the horse"!!!!!! Has to be done with "bum on seat" and everyone at the starting line. Also includes Pt on TG, not just Au.

As a general tangent comment I've definitely a fan of holding status in multiple alliances - it gives far more flexibility, allows for redemption combinations and obviously far more options when travelling. I have top tier in SA (or *A whatever) and OW and find both very useful in many ways. Plus it's always a good idea to not hold all your eggs in one basket.

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

What brings you down to earth very quickly is if you don't have status with an airline and you have to check-in in the Y line. And it hits home when you see the J people walking up to their counter and you still have 50 in front of you!

100% agree. I have status WP1 (OWE) VA WP (no alliance status) and SQ G (*A gold). Each to their own but @Jimmy Chen is 20 sectors is worth it, I do between 130-150 sectors a year and still question if status is worth it. Looking at some of your flights are you sure you can turn around in DPS in about 1.5 hours

honestly, 20 sectors in qf might not be worth it. looking at the PUBLISHED benefits, more than happy to stay as a WP. But curiosity has gotten the better of me, and I'd like some white coasters too. I tend to hit OWE and then fly CX/QR anyway in J a couple of times.

Turning around in DPS for 70 minutes seems a bit hairy, iirc there's a thread here where people are asking the same question. If I dont have checked baggage and check in online maybe it's doable?

One thing I like about this thread is that it highlights options for chasing P1, which I do not think has really been done before as a separate thread?? There has been so many discussions on QF status runs, but these threads have been useless (as far as P1 seeking) as they do not take into account the specific P1 requirements (ie running around the USA doing AA first is not helpful) So to hear ideas on best status runs that are P1 - compliant is great.

For the record, I have no intention of doing what some of these others are doing - as have been there and prefer the $ in my bank account. But I love it as an intellectual exercise, if nothing more :)

Could be a lot, if an LTP run is the next challenge?

This is true. I mean I only do do leisure travel to London a few times a year in F. I posted elsewhere how I could get to LTP in 24 months with DSC and heavy flying but my liver surgeon would probably make more money out of it than I would.
