I am really interested in attending...
Am currently in the US but will not be able to book until tomorrow evening as we will not be near the internet - tours of the White House, Pentagon and Capitol Hill will be taking up our whole day!

Here's hoping the Mega Do doesn't book out quickly.

Any ideas on what the charter in F will get on Qantas frequent flyer.

And I wonder if AA will match my Lufthansa Senator status with the challenge, do I really need top tier on AA as well as QF.

And I am pretty sure an Australian will be at the Oneworld Mega Do, but do I want attend.

LH is *A, so from what Maya said (head of AA loyalty) they will be VERY happy to status match, with the 20000 miles challenge completed by Jan 13. Serfty seems happy with AA, so I thought I'd give it a go.

In other years with the Star mega Do's, there has been a trickling in of other *A airlines who also gave the charter miles. On the last one, AC decided to match after the great response they got from the crowd at the YUL reception they put on for us after Day 1 of the charter! Each year it has been done a bit differently, however, each year more than one airline ended up giving miles for the charter. Either as if it were a normal flight (SMD3), or just a flat amount (SMD1) or flat amount depending on class in charter ( OWMD1).

OT, how did you get a tour of the Pentagon and White House, I thought us aussies couldn't get those as the Australian Embassy in Washington says it won't help in the vetting process i thought??? Or are you a US citizen??

Does the status expire if you don't hit the 20,000 miles? Or you just don't get upgraded to EXP??

How about status matching VA? :p

Does the status expire if you don't hit the 20,000 miles? Or you just don't get upgraded to EXP??

Quick answers from my understanding:

They just said current elite status with a non-oneworld carrier. Why wouldn't that include VA.

The deal sounded to me like AA Gold was matched with a 5000 mile travelled, Platinum with 10000, and Executive Platinum with 20000 for flights retrospective to 9 October, finishing on 13 January. No status conferred until after 13 January, or you hit the mark. Status then valid through Feb 28 2013.

They specifically say that travel done prior to faxing through your details WILL be included. Flights need an AA flight number, and credited to your AA account.

Current AA members can use this to go up a step, or requalify for their existing level for another 12 months.

Only available to participants of the OWMD charter.
All the info will be available to everyone on the megado.com site in around 2 hours, so check it out for the official explanations & descriptions, in case I got it wrong somewhere...

The site was swamped at the opening bell.
While people were frantically logging back in & refreshing, some seem to have booked 2 or 3 seats, thinking that someone else beat them back to it.

If you are really KEEN, try to book. If all seats are greyed out, it may mean they really are sold out, or that the double bookings are still there. There will no doubt be a wait list, and last time there was a lot of movement on this, with I think most folk who wanted in, getting in. It would be good to be near the top of the list though...

I have been awfully tempted to make a booking for Fifa. But what about fifa+1? Anyone know her phone number?

Thanks for thinking of me, Storyteller. (I didn't bring a mobile with me)
I have just arrived back at our apartment but appear to have missed out :(
Are people PMing Randy to be asked to go on a waiting list?
Yes +1 is definitely wants to come along - last week we did a Boeing factory tour and it was fantastic.

No, we are not US citizens - the friends we are travelling with are Americans and they applied for the tours for all of us through their local congressman. We just had to show our passports.

The Pentagon tour was absolutely fantastic and not to be missed!

IMHO these are no longer do's.

They are becoming far too commercial!

Interesting time of year ... this year on those dates, much of north central and east was snowed under ...

Maybe put a post on the Where What Why When thread asking to be on waiting list, & also as you say, PM Randy to cover your bases.
It looks like they are seriously trying to get a bigger plane, or a second plane.

Seeing you are in the US at the moment, if you have any flights with an AA flight number & use your AAdvantage #, you have a head start on the status match / challenge / upgrade options.

Randy and Tommy are talking to AA about the possibility of chartering a 777 or something larger and we've been advised to 'watch this space'.

Whilst it'll be great to have more people along, I really like my current allocated seat, so hopefully we'll get first dibs on allocation of any new a/c configuration (I was lucky enough to book prior to public release, courtesy of Randy).

Ahhhhhh!

I was flying ex-JFK to LHR and it turned out to be the very flight that the One World Mega Do was on! I'm not sure which leg or anything.. but there was a massive sign at the premium check-in area as well as outside the Admiral's Club and also at the gate.

Anyway, since I don't have a flyertalk handle.. or really know anyone that was there, I didn't talk to any of them XD

I think there were heaps of people in the premium cabins and only 7 or so in the rear economy cabin (B-777 of some variant..) so it wasn't an eventful flight in my cabin, but was still pretty fun that I was on even one leg of the ONEWORLD MEGA DO

The 7 or so were the people flat out like a lizard right after takeoff! I wandered back at some stage & only found a few awake! I imagine the sarcophagus like bodies were OWMDoers.
There were a couple of us who would have been happy to say G'day & have a drink in the lounge :D

Captain was happy to pose for photos pre takeoff, & to greet us with the announcement you heard ;)

And if you saw someone that looked like a cocoon proskyneo, that would have been one wijomas. He got busted... TWICE... trying to use his SWU's to upgrade the JFK-LHR segment, despite being told no chance (was not permitted on the group fare we had). He actually managed to make it to the wait-list board at the gate too :)

F was a happy place to be, although i'm still amazed I managed to live that week with so little sleep!

Just landed DFW BNE 3hours ago. Slept like a baby for 8 hours on the flight :D.
Now to find the right spot for the bits & pieces they gave us in the show bags..

And looking forward to hearing the imminent announcement of SMD4.

Was with Wijomas when he tried for the upgrade after checkin. Lady took his request at face value & processed it with gusto. Then the gent who was meeting & greeting us (concierge, I guess) spotted the computer activity & kyboshed it. And firmly reminded Wijomas of the terms of the reservation. Lady looked a hair miffed, & Wijomas, well, he may have blushed a bit, but was probably working out his next plan.

Going to the launch party? I'm going to see if I can wrangle it.

I'm currently sitting in DFW. I just missed you... by 14 hours or so ;)
