Overview of Best Qantas Status Run Options [not the discussion thread]

Thanks for the clarification.
mASA award bookings are gone now, arent they? so we cant do the run mentioned above anymore

That's correct, mASA's went the way of the dodo in July. Strictly speaking you can still do the run mentioned above, you just have to pay for it or burn your points at an absurd rate using QF's new definition of an ASA award.

Yeah, so it seems there's no cheap options to do SC runs under the new Qantas terms. Either you have to pay a bucketload of cash to sit in business, or pay an absurd point conversion rate for ASAs.

What would be the most cost effective options now for a SC run now?
I am thinking SYD-AKL return in Business, for 160SC is a good option. This is usually around $1400 but when on sale this can be had for $980, which is not bad value I think. Though you have to wait for those sales.

Perhaps I might need to go to the USA and do a SC run there (another comment on the thread mentioned some good options eg ORD-MIA, DFW-JFK etc

Note the list below is mostly applicable only when the relevant fares are on sale, or the lowest priced bucket has not been exhausted.
  • CX intra-Asia Business fares
  • MH intra-Asia or Malaysia domestic Business fares
  • LA Business SYD/AKL
  • USA AA runs can still work but you need to be more careful about routing and still SC ratios may go up slightly
  • BA Club Europe short haul

Mind, the "marginal" ASAs previously were only cheap runs for people who had large expendable balances of points to supply to it. Plus, many mostly only expended the effort when subject to a SC bonus promotion (e.g. double status credits).

Hey I have not been logged on in a while. Can anyone direct me to good status run options in the USA around During Feb? I can't seem to find the old threads?

QF have made SC earning with partner airlines "simpler" and "fairer" so it is now a lot less lucrative than it used to be.

Haven't booked yet but having lots of fun on AA.com :)
I'm not really chasing SC but every little bit helps. My theory is that it's easier to retain than to earn so if I'm <100SC short and my SC are about to be wiped, I might be tempted, but I'm certainly not going to spend for the sake of it. I'm too far off LTG to justify the cost.

That said, if you find a real bargain, I'm not opposed to a PM. There's no harm in looking right?:)

It's a bit tricky now to find the really good value deals. Depends on how much you want to or are willing to pay. Still plenty available at $2.80 per SC

Yeah I seem to be able to get around the same, would love some tips on where to look for sub $2/SC these days...

I've been looking for flights in Nov for my trip, and the best I've found is SEA-DFW-LGA, $530 for 240 SCs or $2.21/SC.

It seems that the old favourites of SJU, SXM, etc. just don't work out under the new earning rates. And while the addition of US Airways to the oneworld alliance adds more flight options, I haven't found any spectacular runs.

It seems that if you can find flights under $3/SC that you're doing well these days.

Think that is 120+90 = 210SC not 240? Still not bad at about 2.30USD / SC

Will send you a PM
