OT - Another Bad Man goes Honest.

Congratulations BlacKnox!

As Damien said, the engagement period is a bit like the Matrix. Perhpaps more like a black hole. Don't try to fight it - just allow yourself to be swept along and you'll come out the other side relatively unscathed.

Now for one serious bit of advice: Communication is the key. Communicate openly and honestly and be quick to apologise when necessary.

And one other thing... if you think organising the wedding is hectic and you feel busier than you have ever been, it's nothing. Wait until you have kids, especially a teenager.

What's this about "a" teenager :?: :?:
It doesn't get any easier when you have three of them. My teenagers are aged 13, 11 and 9 :D :D . At least the 1yo doesn't fit the teenager mold yet  .

Mind you, according to DisneyLand's admission policy, next year all 3 of my "teenagers" will be adults  , at least as far as ticket prices are concerned  .

Oh the joys of future challenges for BlacKnox and WhytKnow-to-be, and LW and Mrs LW.

And a tip for the wedding day, let her have anything she wants. Otherwise you will be reminded of it on a very regular basis for the rest of your married life together. It doen't matter how impractical or expensive it is, after a few years the cost and difficulty will have long worn off, but the memory won't.

I know how you feel. Mine are 14, 10 and 4 (two girls and a boy). The 14 year old could be mistaken for an 18 year old. It's frightening. :|

Now I do feel old. Mine are 29 & 27 and now they bring their own kids home with them :!:

      8)

At least they pay their own Bills now.

Also very wise advice. We very nearly didn't get married over his eleventh hour criticism of my choice of candelabras.

Just say this mantra over and over and you should be fine: "yes dear!"

Although I would caution you to be very careful about the tone of voice you use when saying this! :D

Exactly Yada Yada...been there, done that and barely survived the grief

No use trying to explain your tone of voice, just give up now and save any further problems. It'll be a lot easier in the end than trying to dig/claw your way out of that "slip".

Brownie points are given rarely and taken away in full as the merest whim. (in order of cost) Chocolates, flowers, shopping on your CC, jewellery, cars, etc are the only ways to redeem oneself. That in itself usually only gets you back to square one.

Lindsay - yes - it's a brave man that says "yes, dear". If said incorrectly, the safest place to go is the garage or garden shed for a few hours.

Ahh, yes, marriage is like dancing a waltz. Its one step forwards and two steps backwards :D .

Hmmm, the reverse lock..one of my favourites Waltz steps. Thankfully I'm as good as Mrs LW, otherwise I'd be in trouble  ...

Ummm, yeah - it's starting to look like that from the outside in. Judging by all the comments/ advice, it looks like I've just made a terrible blunder  . Aren't you supposed to get nervous on the wedding day - why now (after reading all of this) am I thinking back out, back out and run you fool :?: :p :D .

Ahh yes, but then you wouldn't be able to contribute to such a question in the future :D :D :D

Take heart that noone has said they wouldn't do it, I stand by my comments - even though most of what has been said is true - still the best thing I have ever done (now where did I leave my medication???).

Cheers

Like MetroAir, I would not go back to being single. We might poke fun at marriage, but that is because women give me so much ammunition for such comments :D . My life changed when I got married, and it was a change for the better. I now cannot imagine life without my life-partner.

Same thing goes for kids. As much as they are a lot of work and expense, they are a gift from God, and I really appreciate His gift selection. My job is to train them and mould them into functioning adults so they can get out and be their own people - what a challenge that is. But its a wonderful experience and one I would never give up.
