Well - I got it! Only to LAX though. So checked in at the 1st counter - Got allocated the original premium seat - Then went to the 1 st lounge and gorged on breakfast thinking that this will NEVER happen and then, when I went to board......... Beep! Here you are - Business class with all the trimmings to LA.

Lest see if it happens to JFK......

Think I am going to regret my decision switching from WHY exit row to premium economy seats for QF107 SYD-LAX in ~3 weeks. Economy looks full and I feel WHY exit row would have been a better bargaining tool. Ah well.

Bargaining tool?

Do not be surprised, O filos mou, if you find yourself travelling on Skybeds ...

Nice op-up Nutcase.

Or maybe bargaining power. You know what I mean....

I agree with Serfty...do not be suprised if you end up in a skybed for the haul. I'd say with your Platinum status you have a very good chance if they are looking for 'volunteers'. I'd also suggest that even if you do end up in economy for the trip, you will appreciate the more comfortable PE seat over the standard whY exit row seat.

My recent flight from SYD to LAX (QF11 3/8/09) had me op-upped to W sitting in a J (albeit with W service). Y was completely full.

That and the KUPP fares to get to the East Coast made for a very pleasant trip and 255 SCs.

Hi all,

This has been a fascinating thread to watch as my family gets closer to our trip to the US this month on QF107 and back on QF108.

Myself, Mrs Chambo and very well behaved three-year-old Chambo Jr are travelling SYD - JFK on Aug 17, returning on Sept 2. We booked amazingly cheap fares in O some months ago but have already been upgraded to PE seats with Y service (like many others it seems).

I am a WP but Mrs and Jr are NB.

As you'd expect, we are very happy with this arrangement - half decent seating will make a big difference, even if we don't get the food and drink.

According to Seatcounter, Y is full on the way over but there are plenty of Y seats on the way back. Business appears pretty empty too both there and back.

Maybe I'm just being greedy - okay, I'm being very greedy - but what in your considered views are our chances of getting bumped up again to J? I am presuming that any single WP would have a big chance if Y is full, but three of us might be pushing the proverbial up a hill, especially as one is a child.

Chambo

Can one of the experts interpret these figures?

Class availability 2 weeks ago for Monday's QF107 SYD-LAX flight

Cabin class: R0 F8 A7 J9 C9 D9 I7 W9 T9 Y2 B1 K1 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

Current class availabilty for Monday's QF107 SYD-LAX flight

Cabin class: R0 F2 A2 J9 C4 D0 I0 W0 T0 Y0 B0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

Am I right in assuming that the flight is extremely full?

Looks to be that way, and that rolling forward from Economy to PE and PE to J could happen, depending on no-shows and upgrade requests.

No upgrade LAX to JFK - But still in a PE seat with Economy service.

2 days before my return to Australia - I get a call from Qantas. Would l like to upgrade my "O" Class airfare to either Premium Economy or Business?

Cost - 96,000 points OR USD $1000 to Business. I took the USD $1000 option which has meant my trip has to be the bargain of the year. I didn't think that there would be any point in upgrading to PE.

So my trip so far;

SYD - LAX - Business
LAX - JFK - PE Seat - Economy service
JFK - SYD - Business (But you never know)

All for about AUD $2300

Now, I wonder if you qualify for J QFF points & SC's

i'm flying syd-sfo in sept and note that i've been allocated row 37 or PE, and on 108 from nyc-lax in october i've got the same again - row 38. the ticket was a very, very cheap O class. (unfortunately lax-syd on A380 i'm still in Y).

i read reports here that it means PE seating with Y service, but how does that work? do some people sitting in PE get the PE service they paid for while the others who got bumped get the foil tray and plastic cutlery? or do those who actually paid for PE get sat in skybeds?

either way i'm happy cause i'm getting a more comfortable seat at a ridiculously cheap price, but still a bit confused as to how it works.

i'm WP by the way.

On that flight the PE passengers will get skybeds

Not all; is more aircraft "zone" based. There's 14 Skybeds and 12 PE seat in the redefined "Premium Economy" cabin.

E.g. The 4 Class Pacific configuration for QF108 has had it's cabins reallocated to give an additional 28 Economy class seats.

See here: http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/744ER-14P66J40W187Y.pdf

  • First Class is still 14 seats in Zone A
  • Business Class is Zone B and Zone F with the 14 SkyBeds in Zone C allocated to Y+
  • Premium Economy is Zone C with 14 SkyBeds and 12 Y+ seats.
  • Economy is Zone D & E including the 28 Y+ seats in zone D.

So instead of having a 14F 66J 40W & 187Y configuration we have a 14F 52J 26W & 215Y.

thanks serfty.

is this only for the trans-pac 747's? and do you know how long it's meant to be for?

still very happy cause i'm not fussed about the food but for 12+ hours i want the comfier seat. now here's hoping Y gets sold out and they need to bump some WP's further ;)

I think op-up chances are remote now....

That's a "Pacific" (high J) configuration -normally used transpacific (well Duh!)

They are sometimes used on other routes.

Don't you believe it.

Qantas may have sold 250 WHY fares on this flight and it may be necessary to op-up 20 to 30 PAX.

Anyone care to proffer chances on the following Y to Y+ or J :
