Oneworld HOME F lounges

Gotta say too, for home/"flagship" lounges, the Wing/Pier in HKG don't hugely impress me.

I do agree that they have been outpaced by SYD/MEL (I really don't rate T5) but what I think is the most compelling story about them for me is that it makes HKG a great place to transit. I know I can get a decent bit of food, nice champagne (better than on board CX certainly) and if a long layover can use a day room. I route through HKG at every opportunity.

Note the HKG CX First Lounges will be closed for renovation over the coming months/year.

I am really looking forward to this and hope I get a chance to test them out later in the year. I was in the cabin on Saturday and it was a nice little J lounge. I am looking forward to seeing those chairs in an F setting - with a decent glass of bubbles!

Not so sure I agree. It's certainly a lot quieter and more peaceful, but I'd say the food in the TBIT F lounge is much better, as is the drinks selection (though beer wise, TBIT J lounge > TBIT F Lounge - imported Asahi!)

I've only been in each of the two lounges (T4 F, and TBIT F) once so my experience is limited.

When I was in T4 F the food on offer included fresh sandwiches, rolls and the hot food was roast beef, absolutely delicious rosemary potatoes and some other stuff. I was in there with two other people (husband and wife who were flying to LHR) and it was very pleasant and peaceful.

The free internet access (after getting a pass from the desk) was excellent. The drinks selection wasn't fantastic, but was still quite adequate.

When I moved over to the TBIT F lounge the food on offer consisted of a couple of plates of wraps that disappeared as soon as they replaced them. The lounge was packed, and the internet access useless.

Sure, they had Taittinger on offer but the bottle was empty and I had to chase a staff member to get it replenished. When I went back for a second glass it was empty again.

In the future when arriving inbound to LAX on AA to catch QF12/QF108 I will be staying in T4 until the very last minute after that experience. Not an issue for QF16 :)

If that's not typical for TBIT F lounge then I might give it another try when I'm back next. I only go to the US once or twice a year though (next time should be February).

It's certainly been my experience of TBIT, probably the worst wi-fi ever. Very ordinary food in short supply. I'm trying out SFO in Feb anyone know the best home lounge there?

I use the BA terraces lounge at SFO. Apparently the Sapporo lounge is awful. Te F lounge at BA is a room off the main lounge that is not policed. Champers was Pommerey which was. Acceptable. Various sandwiches and crudités. Nthing flash but the sign saying "First Lounge" seems to keep people out for some reason!

The Sapporo lounge is similar in quality to the associated lounges at TBIT, nothing special but beats the gate lounge.

My favourites are the SYD QF F Lounge, LHR T5 BA F lounge and the HKG CX and QF F lounges.

Gotta say too, for home/"flagship" lounges, the Wing/Pier in HKG don't hugely impress me. Don't get me wrong - they're very relaxing and pleasant (one of them reminds me a LOT of the old SYD QF F lounge), and the restaurant is decent, but compared to MEL/SYD QF F, NRT JAL F and LHR T5 F lounges...no comparison. Hoping to try out the Cabin this Thursday night.
How did you like the Cabin? It is only a Business Lounge but if you were not hugely impressed by the Wing/Pier then you are not likely to be hugely impressed by the Cabin although it has it's own little character.

I was directed to the BA lounge last night and the agent there showed me into the F room. Was quiet and booze was very acceptable. Food was average to poor (bland sandwiches that had been out too long even though they had been covered). Nice view of the nose of the plane that brought me home though!

SYD/MEL QF F (for the whole package), LHR T5 BA F (for the alcohol), NRT JAL F (for the alcohol, food and ambience) lounges are my top 3. :)

Cheers,

Agree with you on the CX lounges... They are a nice place but I must say QF and BA do it better... at the moment... no doubt they'll rectify this situation... CX really aren't the sort to remain 2nd best for too much longer...

Grasshopper, (:p), while that is true today, none of the lounges you mention were around when the Wing was opened at Chek Lap Kok last century.

Back then the CX HKG lounges definitely set the standards when oneworld was formed.

Fair call. I've no doubt I'm one of the "greener" members here, having only been a QFF member for less than 5 years (but a WP for 4 of those :)).

Having recently tried out the Cabin (though briefly - I wanted a shower and so headed off to The Pier F Lounge afterwards), I can only imagine how good their refurbished lounges will be! :)

Hmm, see while I think HKG is certainly a very pleasant airport to transport, and the lounge choices are plentiful and relaxing...the duty free situation has put me off a bit at the moment. If I want to transit somewhere on the way back from Europe, I want to be able to purchase some cheap DF alcohol! Was a little disappointed that you can't do this at HKG anymore (when heading for Australia). Still managed to get a bottle of 21yo Glenfiddich on my way into HKG recently though - $105AUD. :D

Loved it. Very modern/high-tech feel to it, without feeling too uninviting or clinical like some lounges. Add some showers, a spa and a good booze selection, and it'd be up there in my there with my favourite lounges. :)

Though I will say the WiFi was terrible. Not slow, just restrictive. Several apps wouldn't work on my iPhone, while websites would load fine. 5 minutes later all those apps were working perfectly on the Pier WiFi.

It's certainly been my experience of TBIT, probably the worst wi-fi ever. Very ordinary food in short supply. I'm trying out SFO in Feb anyone know the best home lounge there?

TBIT WiFi just gets busy. After all the QF flights leave, it's nice and speedy (as I found out waiting for my 1:05am CX flight recently).

Cheers,
- Febs.
