Would appreciate advice from the brains trust on reaching an acceptable resolution to this scenario please.

As outlined here, I had a fully ticketed Oneworld Classic Flight Award for 3 pax.

Hoping to remove a 36 hour stopover in TYO, I requested seat release on QF metal ex. LHR or CDG for flights back to Australia. Both were declined. However the agent made an error by adding an "auto cancel" to the booking.

About a week later the whole trip disappeared.

QF requested the other Oneworld airlines reinstate the seats. Two agreed, but BA declined on YVRxLHR-MUC.

I have deliberately tried to be constructive with QF on this one and have proposed some solutions via the escalations email.

First, I found alternative routing with award inventory YVRxLHR-VIE. This would mean cutting our time in Vancouver from 4 days to 2. It would also mean serval changes (additional time and cost) to our plans in Germany and Austria. I put this option to QF as being acceptable if we could get a later return from Europe on QF via LHR or CDG.

QF said no seats were available for release, despite available inventory in I class. In any case I was suggesting QF convert revenue seats because it was a QF stuff up.

I also proposed QF purchase J revenue seats from BA on the original YVRxLHR-MUC to reinstate our original itinerary. I had no response on this.

Instead, QF has made a second attempt to have BA reinstate the original seats. It's now been a week since that request to BA and I've heard nothing further.

Any suggestions for how to progress this with QF so that the whole trip is not lost?

In my mind, QF are on the hook to figure this out. You shouldn't have make compromises.

As an aside, would travel insurance cover this?

Definitely not - they would simply say that the ticket is fully refundable.

I'd be firm that Qantas solve this without compromising your itinerary. If you find a better "solution" that fits your schedule better, I'd angle for that otherwise just push for QF to reinstate your original itinerary even if its at their cost (and hey you might even get more points/SC out of it).

This seems an entirely reasonable request. That QF won't oblige, despite the agent's negligence, is quite disappointing (even if unsurprising). I'd keep pushing them on this.

A relief to see their mission of re-building trust continues to go from success to success.

Never say never, but I'm not sure what coverage would cover such an event. Normally they would only cover cancellation if something occurred that prevented travel, not just one part of the itinerary falling through.

Yes, but that’s unlikely to be an insured event since travel has not yet started. The insurer would probably just tell the passenger to buy another ticket with another carrier.

Just out of interest has anyone ever had fully ticketed award booking cancelled close to flight dates?
Never happened to me domestically but always wary on overseas flights when you won’t have too may options.

I would email the execs with what you have outlined here. They can foward it to people who have more powers than rewards escalation. I have previously had success where QF released a seat on a QF flight and added a revenue flight from a OW partner.

Hi, I have read this web sites info that states Qantas have a round the world economy fare for 152,200 points, but when I ring Qantas they state no round world points fare available. So then I do multi trip and it comes out at about 400,000 points even using classic reward legs for every flight....... Is there a simpler way??

If phoning, don't mention RTW: that's a different ticket using cash, not points. What you are after is a Oneworld Award and you don't even need to mention this. Just say you want to book some flights using your points.

If your itinerary prices at more than the expected 152,200 points, it means you have broken one of the rules. Probably you have selected a flight on a non-Oneworld airline, included too many stopovers, or are traveling too many miles.

If I try to add 3 separate legs to an existing One world Classic Reward PNR over the phone in 1 single phone call, would I get charged 5,000 points change fee in total or (5,000 x 3) = 15,000 points?

Trying to understand how expensive it is to add flights in a couple of batches.

One 5,000 charge regardless of the number of flights you are adding/changing in a single phone call - but you pay two fees if there are two pax on the booking.

Have been trying to call Qantas to make the booking but keep getting knocked back due to pricing issues, and hearing different reasons each time. I've double checked and the updated itinerary is within 35,000 miles, no more than 5 stopovers, and no more than 2 transits in any one city. Where stopover is not listed above, the departure of the connecting flight is less than 24 hours after arrival.

List of reasons I've heard over the past 5 phone calls for why they are getting errors with repricing:

• Can't have mixed classes. (MEL-HKG, KUL-BKK is in economy, all other segments in business)
• Need a trans-atlantic or trans-pacific flight
• Too many flights into Asia
• Surface segment counts as an additional stopover, bringing total stopover count to more than 5

I keep pointing out to them that they are confusing my ticket for the Oneworld RTW, but still get nowhere as they aren't able to fix the pricing issue...

Have I missed something or is this just typical Qantas incompetence?

Miles, routing, number of segments and stopovers all look okay to me.

What airlines?

There is no issue with mixed cabin. I have one of these ticketed at present.
