Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

6 month’s lead in is probably getting a bit close to travel in terms of award availability. I booked my trip for Feb26 in April of this year… and Finnair ex SIN was available pretty much daily, for two pax, connecting to anywhere in Europe. That’s gradually dried up over the last couple of months :(
I did check later in the year but didn't notice anything available then either. Might start aiming for other dates later in the year. Any ideas when they release seats? There used to be a table with when to expect availability but that probably changed after COVID.

Qantas used to release daily, but not tend to release in batches.

For other airlines there is a table, but it usually around 11-12 months. Not sure where the table is, but you’ll be able to google it.

I looked in March and there were a smattering of seats x2 for the SYD-BLR flight in business. So there are seats out there.

Thanks for the info. I will go google for it. I really don't care when but my partner would like to see the northern lights. That narrows the times. She would also like to be overseas on her birthday. I have managed it twice and her turn I guess. Would settle for the lights I guess lol. Thanks again. Off to hassle Google.

How many of those are one world hubs? Starting to Google them.
They don’t need to be OW hubs. Are you putting together a oneworld award, or just looking for flights to europe and back? If just looking for straight out flights you can pick up Oman Air fro example from jakarta or singapore. Or even emirates from jakarta. There’s also BA from Delhi, etc.

So got used to hitting Max points having to go out of the way to get where I want to go that it has become habit to just go Oneworld. Really just want to get to Scotland this time. Edinburgh would be nice but the train from London is good also. Maybe a sit-down rethink is required. :).

The only reason I mention Oman air separately is that even though they’ve joined OW, you can’t use them for the capped oneworld award just yet.

If just looking to use QF points there’s also Air France and KLM out of Singapore, and KLM out of Denpasar. Both those carriers will take you directly into EDI via AMS or CDG.

As @MEL_Traveller says, they don't need to be oneworld hubs; just somwhere a Oneworld airline OR Qantas partner flies to/from. What Aus city are you hoping to depart from? Which destination airport are you open to? Is EK acceptable (higher points & taxes)? Stopover or straight through?

EK is not a member of Oneworld and therefore not eligible for inclusion in a Oneworld Classic flight reward.

Neither AF, nor KL are members of Oneworld and therefore not eligible for inclusion in a Oneworld Classic flight reward.

I'm well aware of that but the OP hasn't stated that they are only looking for a Oneworld award (despite that being the title of this thread). Seems to me they just want to get there using QF points.

Staff that is not very well trained. You can have 12 months after your first flight (which of course is actually not bookable so realistically the most is 11months).

You will run into issues getting your ticket reticketed because you booked it with peso. Only Auckland and Hobart teams will be able to ticket it for you. All other call centres can only put in the flight changes then send it off for ticketing and thats the best they can do. Try in the future to get the initial ticket priced in AUD (any departure port/ country can be priced in AUD).
Is it possible to get the initial ticket priced in AUD (when starting a OWA overseas) via the Qantas website or only via a call centre? My experience so far is the website only allows you to pay in the currency of the starting country.

In May this year, we took a trip that in included 8 days in Scotland. Nowhere near enough time. We thought a trip next year of about 2-3 week in Scotland would be nice. For the life of me, I can't find any business reward flights from the start of the year to the end of the available calendar. Is Qantas making it impossible to book these or is it because I don't have any status? I vaguely remember a company that could find seats for a fee but can't remember the name. Getting old is a cough lol. Any help would be appreciated.
This thread is Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Planning - The Definitive Thread
If your post is about a simple QFF classic reward booking question better asked in another thread.[not oneworld reward]
Since the thread title was changed getting more off topic posts. Better is those off topic posts and reply's are moved to another thread

The oneworld Classic Flight Reward table only applies when your Reward Itinerary includes travel on at least two oneworld Member Airlines other than Qantas, and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Member Airline. Qantas flights operated by Jetstar Airlines (JQ, 3K or GK)^^ cannot be included in oneworld Classic Flight Rewards.

Call centre only. Website will always use currency assigned to the starting city.

I know you and @MEL_Traveller are both across the OWA rules.

My intention is to assist those less familiar with the OWA rules who end up at this thread asking off topic questions.

As @Mwenenzi has pointed out, this thread appears to be getting more off topic as time goes by.

It is not clear what the OP for this section is after, which is why I asked the question of whether they are looking for a OWA or simple use of Qantas points.

Agree the thread is probably getting a bit too long now, and for those just joining AFF, possibly not immediately clear of what the difference is between a OW classic award, and classic awards in general.

My first option is an OWA flight as that gives better options in the long run. I have had a couple in the past where I have started in Sydney and this year from Rockhampton where we now live. Most recently we flew to Melbourne to connect to a JAL flight and preciously from Sydney to Adelaide to connect to a Cathay flight to Hong Kong. Like flying so going out of the way to get a flight isn't a problem. It seems that the hardest part is getting in and out of Australia. I loved onto JAL this morning and confirmed a rewards available flight in September 26 from Melbourne but Qantas won't allow it to be booked. So frustrating.

As you're ex. ROK, maybe keep an eye on CX ex. CNS.

They currently operate three days per week. However, this service is only scheduled until the end of Feb.

From my searches it has had good availability, but Feb may be too early for your intended dates.

Had a look going that way but Qantas keeps directing to Jetstar. Feb is a little early. Do you know when they start again? Might look to Nov 26 to get more time for booking and maybe get more available flights.
