What's everyone's thoughts about getting stuck at a stopover due to covid and not able to catch the next flight on your OWA. I assume rest of the itinerary will be cancelled and there will be no rebooking?

No changes are permitted to the oneworld award itinerary once the first flight has commenced, from memory. The trip is effectively over and you are now on your own.

Not necessarily. It would depend on the T+C of the policy. Probably quite expensive, but policies exist.

I guess this rule might come into play:

14.7.6 Subject to this clause 14.7, the following changes are permitted to a Classic Flight Reward flight before departure of that flight, provided the booking contains one or more Flight Segments that are not within Australia, and the Flight Segment(s) being changed do not include a partner airline that requires a ticket to be reissued for the change. Any such change will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger:

(a) change to flight number; and
(b) change to date of travel.

The wording is tricky: "do not include a partner airline that requires a ticket to be reissued for the change"
So for those segments on those airlines, changes would not be possible? Anyone has a list?

14.5.1 A oneworld Classic Flight Reward is a Classic Flight Reward Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Member Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Member Airline.

Someone would naturally expect that the T&Cs in the QF classic award rule looks relevant to the oneworld reward booking, as it is defined as a subgroup. I guess if that's not correct, do you happen to have access to the T&Cs of what would be thre rules for oneworld awards?

Here’s an example.

I book a multi-city award itinerary on the QF website, flying wherever. The total points is (say) 530,000, because I did not include 2 x oneworld partner airlines, other than QF, or maybe I included a non-oneworld airline, or had 6 stopovers.

I then book a similar trip, but keeping within the oneworld rules of 35,000 miles, 16 x segments, 5 x stopovers, etc, etc (i.e., within the oneworld award requirements) and it comes to 318,000 points.

The QF rules that are being quoted, upthread, enable the building of an itinerary that does not need to be within the requirements/limitations of a oneworld award, but there’s a price to pay.

As per the heading of 14.5 'Classic Flight Rewards - oneworld Classic Flight Rewards booking conditions', it is reasonable to read that OW Classic Flight Rewards are a subset of classic flight rewards.

When it comes to changes, the provisions that apply to Classic Flight Rewards also apply to OW Classic Flight Rewards as there's no separate provision to changes of OW Classic Flight rewards.

Where It's unclear to me is the exact meaning of this section: "being changed do not include a partner airline that requires a ticket to be reissued for the change"
If travelling on those partner airlines, no changes permitted after beginning the journey? Would anyone by any chances know which are those airlines to avoid when possible? I have a particular interest in knowing what to expect with BA / CX.

I think it’s the difference between a ticket reissue, and a revalidation? Changes to dates should be ok (revalidation). Changes to flight number may require the ticket to be reissued.

If its any help, I had to change my a BA flight on my booking and the person on the phone mentioned BA tickets require a reissue. It didn't really mean anything to me or effect anything I was doing as my trip hasn't started but they did mention it to me. Not sure about other airlines though, or if that actually applies in the scenario you mentioned.

Changed my OWA yesterday and it's been ticketed (received email ticket) but I noticed today they refunded 1 pax points back. Normally they will refund and take points to reticket but this was just a straight up refund of 1 pax. Should I call them up and question it or just keep my mouth shut? haha

I saw some yesterday looking at dummy J bookings SYD-LON (Ret). I was looking at couple of random days in Apr/May and saw good connecting options through HND on the return.

Rather than looking for just HND - SYD, try looking for a combination of flights using the multi city search option, such as LHR - HND - SYD or
HEL - HND - SYD. I've seen J availability for JL51 HND - SYD in combo with another flight that wasn't showing for the same date using a search for the HND - SYD leg only.

My "thought bubble" is that it's a QF thing because they have QF26 in direct competition with JL51 so they avoid showing availability on the opposition's flight when trying to book just the single flight (even though QF never seem to have any J availability on QF26 anyway - maybe availability does show up for status holders though)

Could also be married segments - that JL isn't willing to give up an award seat Japan-Australia, but is willing to make one available from Europe.
