They are your points but for one leg in First I personally would stick with Business

Hi all,

New to this so hoping someone can provide some advice...

I have approx 900k QFF points and plan to go on ATW trip in 2021 for my honeymoon.

Question - do all the flights need to be in the same class to qualify for the One World deal? Or can i book first where available and just pay the difference in points? Have found a mix of business and first, but the complexity of the choices seem to crash the website when searching. From reading the posts here i assume this will be a common occurrence

A good starting point is this article which explains the One World Classic Award. But note the points required is no longer correct as they increased last year.

This award is points based and does not require you to travel in a particular direction.

One World’s round-the-world product is very different. It’s called the Oneworld Explorer. Details of that can be found here.

You can book your trip in different fare classes, but you’ll pay for the highest class of travel. In your case that’ll mean 455k points per person for First even if half your flights are in Business.

Another question I managed to get to the point of selecting flights earlier today, but now whatever i search just comes back with an error - The Fare type is missing in this request (#7130). If I choose 'Use Money' it works, but the 'Use Points' option just comes back with this error.

Have done a quick google and cant see that error anywhere on the forums. Thought it may be because my work laptop thinks im in Singapore (as it kept directing me to the SG Qantas website) but have tethered off my phone and still getting the error.

Are you using the Multi-City search tool? I think it bugs out after 6 legs.

What is the routing and dates you are looking for?

Is your flight BCN-JFK with IB?

IB flights are often the cause of an error.

Didnt even get that far, as soon as i hit search, it comes back with the error. But reducing the segments to below 6 seems to have worked!

BTW the distance looks ok. GCMapper shows 26,617 miles

The searches i have found seem to include a lot of non One world airlines, so I assume its going to take some effort with getting it just right. Fun times ahead!

Including SYD-FCO-CDG?

You will need to get a list of Oneworld carriers, see where they fly and start from there. No partner airlines and no codeshares permitted.

That leg had OW carriers but the dates only had economy... so I think it will take some searching! I may just end up calling them, I think the premium contact centres are in AUS, as I dont think i have spoken to anyone in PHP or SA...

I’m curious as to which carriers you found for SYD-FCO And FCO-CDG. Do you mean something like SYD-xx_-FCO, and FCO-xx_-CDG, as 2 segments each, for example?

Edit: I realise that you have just begun planning, but it will be important to come up with exact routing (and not leave out intermediate transits/stops) as this will affect the number of segments and also the permitted mileage

Yes - was Cathay from memory, but the segment from HK to FCO was in economy - which is no good.

I did try to put in each segment as a separate flight in the booking tool, but kept getting errors when i booked more than 6 or so flights.

All good for now, will have a play around with it over the next few months before i need to book.
