Gol bought the "new" Varig a few years ago - so they're effectively the one carrier. Reference:

Interesting to see that MU and FM (which is currently a member of *A) are merging, but ow is talking to MU.

I wonder which carrier will be standing after the merger, and which alliance will court the newly merged airline...
