Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

from 15 December the change fees are going up to 5000 instead of 3500 more info at the Qantas website - just keep it in mind for your calculations

That's actually good news! I had thought it would increase to 7,000 points per change per person (hence my 14,000 per change calculation) and from the 1st of December. That helps!

Same here. I had a flight booked and ticketed within the 24 hour window, flight got changed to outside window but no problems as still counting as a transit. Now if I changed other flights later it might have caused a recheck / validation that could have been a problem.

Great - thanks for the confirmation :)

I was In a similar situation but my transit turned out to be 5 mins longer than 24 hours so as I wanted that flight to get home , I had to seek an alternative to an earlier leg that I had wanted as a stopover ie can't do two stopovers in the one place! 5 minutes ! But hey rules are rules

Are AA watching me? All AA flights from NYC to BOS on the 22nd of Oct are gone! There were 5 or 6 yesterday - Frustrating!

Had to confirm a few things before I booked and now the flight I wanted is gone. Lesson - don't hesitate!

It's strange, all Sunday flights in October have disappeared. All other days have multiple flights per day

3rd time lucky - Last night I was able to add an AA flight to my itinerary which is still in early stages, but looks like this:

All flights are x2 for me and the SO.
MEL>ADL QF J
ADL>DOH QR J A350 :)
DOH>DXB QR Y (Stop)
DXB>DOH QR Y
DOH>ESB (Ankara) QR J (Stop)
MAD>LHR IB J
LHR>JFK AA J (Stop) 777-300ER

Next flights will be JFK>NRT and NRT>MEL plus filling in the gaps a bit.

The plan is to go to Istanbul from Ankara with a paid flight, then pick up a car and drive through to Rome while stopping in Bosnia to visit my family. From there I'm not 100% but we'll work something out. Not the most exotic RTW trip because we're doing some family visits along the way, but will be an awesome experience for us nonetheless.

So far I've paid $1730 in taxes which while I was on the phone felt like it was high but the agent said the QR flight taxes had gone up since my last booking. Once I got off the phone I checked my flights against ITA Matrix and it came through at $1600 total which isn't that far off QFs calcs.

Next stop, working out how to get from JFK>NRT... Is anyone else having issues with searching on BA for JL availability? When I try to search it keeps tripping over asking for a stop over...

I just added my next flight LGA-BOS-NRT on the JL 787-9 :D

Agent was very helpful and already knew about the QR issues so was going to work on it straight away which was great. Also got a very nice surprise with my taxes - getting a very nice $650 refund!

Updated Itenerary is:

MEL>ADL QF J
ADL>DOH QR J A350 :)
DOH>DXB QR Y (Stop)
DXB>DOH QR Y

MAD>LHR IB J
LHR>JFK AA J (Stop) 777-300ER
LGA>BOS AA Y
BOS>NRT JL J (Stop) 787-9

Next is MEL>SYD>NRT, and i need to lock in some more EU flights with another Stop somewhere, most likely London.

Taxes have been updated to around $530 /pax.

I had a similar thing a week or two ago. Had alerts setup on lots of flights to/from the Caribbean with AA. They all triggered on one day, but only showed up on the BA site, not QF nor AA.

I rang up QF to book them, they said there's no availability. I gave it 12 hrs, they were gone as soon as they came. I find it hard to believe they were all booked up, I'm talking multiple destinations and multiple flights per day. I feel like they were pulled back by the revenue management system. Haven't been re-released up to now however.

Re: One world Round The World Business booking using Qantas points.

I am 6 weeks on this trip with staying at Grand Hyatt's in every city using my Hyatt points which got a great guest service with life points.(Syd-Spore-London-NY-HK-Tokyo-Sydney).

Re: One world Round The World Business booking using Qantas points.

Just want to know, how was the availability of flights for this booking when you were looking (about 10months in advance)? And I presume that $3000 in fees between two is for the airport taxes?

Yes, 1500 is for taxes..
Difficult part was from spore to london at booking time but last week more flights were released by BA and I got hold of that.. Other than that all others were ok and few flights between NY and HK.
Could not get a direct from Tokyo to syd (Tok-Bri-Syd)but I changed that to Haneda to Sydney which got many direct flights.

Best way to check is go to Qantas site and check award flights.

With AA, what you see on the QF website is what is generally available. You can also search on AA and BA websites, which is normally the same as what is on QF.

Does anyone know if AA flights have more availability than what the Qantas Website shows? Availability is patchy to say the least.

I have a question on that.
AA7308 is operated by Qantas (ie: QF7 DFW).
Can AA award availability on this flight be different to QF award availability? That is, could AA have J availability when QF does not?
It would seem not. (I'm not enrolled in AA or BA to check.)

Generally no award availability on codeshares, with the exception of QF*LA and LA*QF.

booked my first RTW 280k holiday in J :p august 2017

Months of research on the forums to pin this in - very pleased

details are:

LEG 1: MEL - SYD - SIN - DOH - AMM inc new Qatar A350 and a stint at the qatar J lounge in DOH and the abundance of OW lounges in SIN... MEL - SIN is in BA havent heard the best reviews
LEG 2: AMM - ROM (On RJ - wish me luck)
LEG 3: ZRH - LHR - MIA - SLS (Inc AA 777 business suites to MIA and a stop off in the new CX lounge in LHR)
LEG 4: JFK - LAX - SYD - MEL (Inc Qantas? 747 JFK to LAX and A380 and A330 suites)

taxes @ $1500 aud

Booked through my fathers LTG. All the points from credit cards ... only minimal flying.

when i tried to book online i had issues with RJ taxes so phoned premium booking service....which offered 4 clear benefits than online booking...
1) Able to run multiple options quickly to reach destination A-B - actually got my better routing (to use Qatar a350)
2) Free up seats i couldnt get online - in 'First' for domestic AA flight MIA - SLS, + JFK - SYD J seats were not visible online
3) Booking fee of 2500qff points waived due to online booking crashing
4) Explains length of legs and amount of miles left (if you wanted to add a future leg in this helps)

SLS??? Might be the wrong airport code as the internet reckons this is in Bulgaria

Sounds good. Was that a family transfer/award?
Must have a look and see what awards my son (WP) can see.
