you can do a search on British airways for availability, but will have to ring Qantas to book. This can be hit and miss with JL judging from reports on here
 
Without reading 461 posts I have a staring PNR with SYD/DFW/FLL in F to DFW on QF then AA to FLL in Y
Although only a transit does switching to AA constitute qualifying for using one of the necessary none QF OW carriers?
Next ? Is using F from NY to London
I prefer A380 but wary of BA charges
Will then need F from Europe back to SYD and don't want to go back to LHR to get QF product. Maybe QR and their A380. Happy with MH A380 but only out of LHR to KUL then J from there and high taxes out of LHR
Haven't been CX F for a while so not sure on what they fly to HKG but would need to time QF connection on an A380 as only used a couple of days a week back to SYD

I presume you are looking for an ATW routing.

You have really only put forward one specific question - the answer is YES, an AA flight can count. A Qantas "oneworld [classic] award" does not need any QF flights. It must have flights on at least two non-QF oneworld carriers such as JL, AA or QR.

As serfty states yes, the AA DFW-FLL will be the second one world carrier used so you need to include one more to validate this rule.

To avoid BA heading to London you could take AA however iirc they do not fly a 388 on this route.

CX fly the 777 with F from FRA/CDG/MXP/ZRH to HKG but only then J down to AU or as you say try and time it to fit with QF128 in F (seasonal and on selected days). Also don't discount JL F from Europe to TYO then down to AU.

I had this same thought about how to get back from Europe to Australia and went with JL F LHR-HND then a couple of hops through Asia in J on MH and JL. Originally I finished my routing with HND-SYD on QF with the total taxes at $1100 then decided to switch that segment to HND-SIN-KUL-SYD on JL/MH. Cost me the standard 5000 points however dropped the taxes by $400 to $700 total.

Based on that I wouldn't discount London totally as a departure point from Europe. Many carriers to choose from and if you are lucky the taxes can still be acceptable.
 
Adding to snabbus comments re London, you could also try flying from another destination in europe to LHR in Y or J, using LHR as a transit point then continue in F on another carrier.

I did this when booking my LHR>JFK leg on AA. I ended up flying MAD>LHR>JFK which saved me on taxes.

Also just found F availability on CX382 ZRH to HKG + ~$85. No idea what the F product is like.
 
Hey what's the exact maximum number of days these can take? My planned itinerary currently is 364 days from Sydney to Sydney but can't recall if the requirement was just within one year or some smaller period like 355 days.

I don't think you'll get it that long, you have to complete the itenary before your first flight. So depending on who you are planning to fly with on your last leg that would be about 330-361 days

I'm going to keep it open-ended and add flights later like I did last time (unless that's no longer possible?) I already know when I have to be back so just trying to book the first flight as early as I can get away with under the terms. I know the total trip has to be less than a year - just not sure how much less. And there is a J award for the first flight available currently that would make it 364 days.

This is the only rule I can find that addresses your question:

14.6.1 Classic Flight Rewards will be valid for one year from the original ticketed departure date, unless otherwise specified.

So it appears that the limit would be 365 days (or 366 in a leap year...)

Does anyone know if CX ever release more than 2 x J seats at a time on the JFK-YVR route? I require seats for 3.

I can see good availability for 2 pax in J +/-30 days from my preferred date, but never more than 2.

Y won't be the end of the world but as it's an overnight sector I'd much prefer J.

QR do not release F award seats on their A380 flights to/from LHR. This is a published statement. Try CDG.

Hi all - I have a J OWR trip booked very excited and was kindly informed by a few people on this thread about the mytrips app which allows you to sync all your bookings into your phone and to get updates. It's brilliant.

My question is, and send me to another thread if there is one, apart from using ical and mytrips app is there an itinerary excel template or app people could recommend so I can put in all my land travel and hotels and flights etc into one place? I'm not that good at excel to create one and hoping someone can recommend.

Have a look at websites/apps like TripIt. There are several similar apps and in fact a while thread about it somewhere.
