One way O/S flight

I thought I heard some time back that QF was to introduce one-way O/S flight booking on their website (I took it to mean one way at about half the return price, not 90%).

Doesn't seem to have happened.... I need to fly Darwin to Singapore in March but the only option coming up on QF are in Fully Flex only at $1193 being the cheapest. Seems a ripoff for a one way economy ticket! For some reason the cheaper groups (red-e-deal etc) are not appearing.

Seems my options are to either use QFF points or fly Tiger at a tiny fraction of the QF price. Haven't checked SQ yet. Do QF intend to compete with other carriers or what? I mean how hard can it be to offer one way at a reasonable price?

Have a look at Jetstar. Can purchase one way tickets if you so desire.

I also remember seeing something like what you mentioned, but can't recall where I saw it.

The absence of one way flights (except for high value fares) are for political and profit based reasons. There are many places where fares are lots cheaper than Australia and one way there would mean people can take advantage of them easier.

It also gets people around issues with tickets with limited validity - the availability of open returns are often a feature of more expensive tickets.

Thanks Mal.... I will have a look at Jetstar but frankly would prefer to use Tiger or others - I just don't want to encourage Qantas' Jetstar quest. Seems that SQ don't fly to Darwin.

I'd imagine SQ don't fly DRW-SIN because they just let TR handle it (TR being the LCC of SQ).

I'd definatley recommend TR over Jetstar. I believe the Jetstar DRW-SIN flights are being operated by 3K (ie: the former JetstarAsia) and my experiences with them have been far from good (worse than with JQ - and that's saying something!). TR have yet to wrong me and they offer excellent fares DRW-SIN, just a shame the taxes are so high.

Not sure that SQ flying to Darwin would help you in this case. Out of PER, the SQ discount prices are only available for return flights. If you want a one way, you get the fully flexible price. This is the same as QF red-e-deal, they are only priced on a return basis.

As for one way O/S pricing, as I understand this has only been implemented to New Zealand and Fiji.

If you fly reasonably regularly, please consider the OW Tiger flight to SIN

The real reason is that QF fares from SIN to Oz return are a whole lot cheaper and with one year validity than the sames flights from Oz to SIN return.

Select the QF singapore web site and wander through some sample ticketing arrangements.
