Found this on the Velocity home page.. interesting stats on how to use his points at the bottom of the page. I am sure someone will analyse them... :)

29 June 2007: Less than 600 days since its launch, Virgin Blue's award winning frequent flyer program, "Velocity", has reached a major milestone, signing up its millionth Member who received an unexpected windfall of one million Velocity Points simply by joining online at Velocity> Welcome to Velocity - the loyalty program of Virgin Blue
Ian Selth, of Westlake Queensland, could not believe his luck when he was presented with his prize by Phil Gunter, General Manager Velocity, at Brisbane airport yesterday.
"When we launched Velocity, our vision was to create a loyalty program that was of genuine value to Members and most importantly, transparent and easy to redeem Points”, said Phil Gunter.
"We are proud the program has achieved that goal and travellers now recognize and enjoy the benefits of Velocity's 'any' seat redemption policy, a first for an Australian airline, as well as a range of earn and burn opportunities, including airlines, hotels and car hire; and even flowers, food, wine and movie tickets”, he finished.
Mr Selth can redeem his million Points, which have no expiry*, for a wide range of products and services including:
  • Sydney - Hong Kong return flying Virgin Atlantic economy class for 16 people - 960,000 Points
  • Sydney - Los Angeles return flying Hawaiian Airlines economy class for four people - 460,000 Points
  • Perth - London return flying Malaysian Airlines economy class for four people - 512,000 Points
  • Brisbane - Kuala Lumpur return flying Malaysian Airlines economy class 16 times for one person - 960,000 Points
  • Brisbane - Melbourne return flying Virgin Blue for eight - 171,200 Points
  • Canberra - Coolangatta return flying Virgin Blue 65 times for one person - 988,000 Points
  • Melbourne - Samoa return flying Polynesian Blue for 16 people - 883,200 Points
  • 69 nights in a Choice Hotel (based on a standard double room, each night at 14,000 Points)
  • 192 days of car hire with Europcar (based on economy vehicle, 5,200 Points per day)
  • 153 cases of Crown Lager (6,500 Points each)
  • A Peugeot Scooter Elystar 125cc (887,200 points)

Sydney - Hong Kong return flying Virgin Atlantic economy class for 16 people - 960,000 Points OR
250 Movie Passes

Geez, that's a hard decision. ;) Velocity do well if we take the movie passes. :!:

Hmm 1,000,000 miles for randomly signing on - 5 return domestic trips for naming an airline...

That is the luck with some of these promotions/competitions.

I would take the 16 trips SYD-HKG....

JohnK,

I for one, would be well over Crown Lager by the time I drunk 153 cases of it.

Hmm.... Let's think about this for a minute.

A case of Crown Lager can be purchased for ~$40 so the cost for $153 cases of Crown Lager is $6120.

A return trip SYD-HKG, depending on travel season, would price at well over $1000 per trip so the cost for 16 trips SYD-HKG is at least $16000.

Do you still want to know what I would choose?

Not quite Bill!

With 16 return trips SYD-HKG and each trip including a side trip to my favourite destination at 3 trips a year would last at least 5 years. With all the money I would save on airfares I could buy enough Crown Lager or Tiger beer to last all that time....

A SYD-HKG, Crown Lager combo deal?

I was wondering how long, and in what form the analysis would take ..:D

Combo deal sounds good.. is there an upsize version?

Just a thought here and sorry to spoil your fun.

The HKG trip option is 'Sydney - Hong Kong return flying Virgin Atlantic economy class for 16 people - 960,000 Points' rather than 16 trips to HKG for one person.
Could be a good party :!:

OK. That was only a scenario of how one could spend 1,000,000 Velocity points. So in theory I could still have 16 trips SYD-HKG all to myself.

If not, then I would take 'Brisbane - Kuala Lumpur return flying Malaysian Airlines economy class 16 times for one person - 960,000 Points' and each trip including a side trip to my favourite destination at 3 trips a year would last at least 5 years.

....... just thought that in this hypothetical scenario you would go to Hong Kong and take 15 of your best mates from AFF. :D  :D

Now lets see, SYD-HKG is about 9 hours, so 18 hours for the return trip. 16 returns is going to be 144 hours.

Assuming a consumption rate of 2 crowns/hour, 3672 (153 x24) beers should last around 1836 hours. That is better than 10 times the "value".
