Haha - I thought I was the only one who thought the beer is never cold enough on aircraft! Means I switch to red ;)

I've only read the first post in this thread but I couldn't agree more.

How is it I need to let me 50 cent ice cream stand for 10 minutes before I can bite into it, but I can't get more than a lukewarm beer?

Actually there was a USB powered fridge as one of the Kris Kringle gifts at our MEL Dinner.

Maybe that would solve the problem?

Hvr I got my #1 girl in Nanjing to buy a dozen of these off Taobao for AD8ea I think - they arrived into office in Nanjing and she tested 4pcs - totally useless she said - back to supplier for refund.

Sorry Hvr, penegal, Tommy, tuapekastar, ric_melb, Goodonya, Uppy, BC, JT - your New Year gifts will no longer be arriving!

dont think its possible to serve everything at an icy cold temp as they tend to rely on dry ice rather than refrigeration

i'd totally gotten used to lukewarm beers flying around asia :( would be great if they could accomplish this though

obtaining an answer to my query is as hard as receiving a coldie in flight. perhaps I shall ask experts elsewhere

Pretty sure i answered it in post 9. Happy for a non pilot expert to chip in but that is why from my pilot perspective in short haul

The question was answered.

Ice cream comes on board already frozen and even though kept in dry ice is still warming until used. Beer is as cold as it can reasonably be.

If you want colder, then you need to visit a bar, not an aircraft.

Next time take your own ice bucket..... Ask for as much ice as on board to fill bucket..... Hey drink in bottle or can place in ice bucket.... 5 mins..... Ice cold drinks
I have had FAs in the past put a drink or two on ice for me when boarding, so that they were nice and cold by the time they came to be served.

Hmm, maybe that belongs in the "You know you fly too much" thread?

I am still waiting... Might be a while?

Yesterday's visit to the BNE catering facility was a great experience.

They chill all the drinks down to 2C before loading.

Which airline? I haven't had an icy cold beer on any airline. Ice cubes change that though. ;)

My last travel in EK:

"would you like a drink sir?"
"yes please - diet coke without any ice"

So I got exactly that - a half glass of Diet coke......without ice.

Yep, the bevarages for a flight are placed in a "Spiral Chiller" which reduces temperates from "ambient" to 4 degrees in 20 minutes - they are then placed together in their trollies and moved by robotic handlers into a chilled dock where they are kept at 2 degrees to await the truck to take them to the designated aircraft.
