I checked the site in both Mozilla FireFox and Internet Explorer.

FireFox shows the Padlock and is signed with a certificate from CitiBank, as I would expect from a Secure Site from Citibank.

Internet Explorer doesn't.

Can't work out why, but I know the site is still secure.

You're correct in staying away from a site that you don't know the validity of, although, a padlock doesn't always prove a site is the site you are wanting to visit - or that the data you enter is secure.

I do wonder why Internet Explorer (7) doesn't like the site though. Agree also about wanting some kind of evidence that the card is free.

Well, for one thing, in IE7 the padlock is up the top next to the address bar. And it does appear for me on the Citibank site if I go through the motions.

Yeah seems to be a legit site to me. At first I didn't notice the padlock in IE at the top either, I hardly use it and didn't realise its now up the top, seems like a stupid place for it to be!

On a related note, has anyone using Firefox had an alert appear when logging into Citibank online that the certificate domain doesn't match the actual domain? It says the certificate could be fake, although highly unlikely! I know its not a dodgy site since I always use the same bookmark and didn't use to have a problem with it.

Just making sure,

is the citibank no annual fee credit card still available to apply to?

I tried all the links, doesnt seem to work or comes up with the $119 fee citibank gold credit card....

i tried calling and the support staff (from an asian country) said that the offer is still available 'Probably' but they require a code that should have been given when 'you received the invitation letter'... i told them that a friend had received the offer and that I was wanting to join aswell..

is there anyone that has the code and or anyway in getting the card another way?

Cheers

PRINT THE TERMS!!! Re: Citibank Gold NO ANNUAL FEE FOR LIFE

I made sure to print out a copy of the initial page with the conditions there, and the conditions which clearly mention "no annual fee for life". Although with Citibank's record of changing things, they might one day launch a "one-off fee" or introduce a rewards program fee sometime. Still, I hope that the copies of the conditions when I signed up will be enough to actually get a no annual fee ever card!

I have a Citi Silver Visa with no annual fee ever, for about 7 years now. Make sure you print and save the terms. And keep the terms that come with the card in the mail.

Every year I have to prove that yes citibank did once offer it, none of their call centre staff believe it until I fax it. Mind you they haven't requested the fax for the last two years.

If you lose the card they will issue a replacement with a new card number and the terms in place at the time of re-issue. Keep the original documentation to prove it.

I just applied for a no-yearly free CB card.
I received an automated email advising they received my application and reviewing etc. Provided a reference number too.

But when on their website, and entering the status of application. It says it cannot find my details and to call their customer service.

Oh well, if it isn't true, then my pity. Further i'm already an existing CB credit card holder? maybe i am disqualified due to their T&C's?

What's the travel insurance on the Gold card like? Any obvious catches? Anyone used it and made claims?

Catches include the requirement to have purchased tickets with the card (so I used my other gold card for an insurance claim).

Redemption flights may not be covered due to this requirement. I'll look for the T&Cs - it is likely linked earlier in this thread anyway.

There is likely to be a large excess, so include this in any comparison with alternatives. As it is effectively a free policy, expect more restrictions than other normal gold card conditions.

Hello all,
I posted a comment a bit over a week ago, whereby i applied for a no-annual fee gold card. however i received a rejection letter not long afterwards. Citibank's reason is because they recently increased my existing silver card limit (to $4,500).
I'm a pi$$ed off at their reason, as the min gold card is $5k? but why couldn't they just transfer the cards across? the only reason imo is they lose my annual fee.... but not to worry, my partner has had her gold card approved.....
so the moral of the story is....... the links for the no annual fee applications do actually still work!!it is a legitimate link.
cheers,
Alan

hi,
just putting my 2 cents in. heard about the promotion ages ago, have had citibank gold visa for years. a friend told me he kicked up a fuss about the offer and they let him convert his visa to free for life! apparently this has NEVER happened before, i don't know how my friend did it. so i tried to do the same but was firmly rejected on several occasions. so i decided what the heck i'll apply for the gold mastercard instead. now happily got my free for life citibank gold mastercard, cancelling my visa any day now!
Advice to all those who already have citibank card visa/mastercard: reduce your credit limit on your current card, then apply for the one u don't have (ie mastercard/visa), and once u get the free for life one, cancel your existing one! presto!
hope that helps,
p

I haven't had any experience with the new Gold Card offer but there is a cap with the Citibank Gold Card - which I have. It was capped at 60,000 points last year. When I queried why I had no more points in my next monthly statement, and I'd spent around $29,000 on a new kitchen, I was told that for each anniversary year, 60,000 reward points is the maximum you can earn. I could not start accruing reward points for another 4 months.

This cap has always been there, but they use the word "may" in T&C.

Some people reported they had been caught and capped. Some people are not caught, like me, earned 209138 in the last 12 months

Like you, I have also earned well in excess of the points cap in the last 12 months. However I don't believe it is wise to publicly display the amount of points that you have earned.

They are just points. I don't think anyone is going to hold me hostage and want my points.

And I am sure many of you do triple or more than I do.

I'd be more concerned that Citibank get wind of it and clamp down hard with no exceptions therefore you are doing yourself and everyone else who sneak over a disservice ;)

I didn't even think about kidnapping you promise! :D
