I just had a call from a mate in payroll, saying citibank had just called, as expected.

Citibank are a bit painfull full stop, but it is the best deal around points wise, especially with the no annual fee ever Gold Card, with travel insurance. ANZ is expensive and they charge for the rewards program, so worth a try with Citibank.

Citibank was extremely tedious. Made numerous phone calls, did checks, needed to fax them tax assessments, then claimed did not receive the faxes, etc. Did get a big (unwanted) credit limit, but I would much rather not jump through the hoops.


Do you own your own business, I cannot understand why they would want Tax Details otherwise...

Thanks to this forum I got my card about 3 months ago now. It took about 2 weeks from applying on line to receiving the card.
 
Very frustrated & disappointed but they've rejected my application! :evil: Grrrhh...after so many phone calls to-ing and fro-ing...and when I rang up for the last time, they claim to not be able to disclose the reason(s) why, but didn't even offer anything. I asked if there were other stuff I could supply to support my application, and she's like "fax us your 2 latest payslips and letter from your accountant, etc...", which was when I started to tune out and thought why bother since it's not even guaranteed they'll change their minds! I then asked about whether it'd be possible to get a silver or lower card instead, and the person told me "yes, do try again later in 6 months!" :shock: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought usually they're so keen on getting new business that they'd want to hang on to me?! Apparently not.

And I don't even know if it'll dent my credit history record either...? I tried to ask, but the call centre person didn't give me a straight answer...Great, can't even apply for another card for another 6 months, which is when my current card's annual fee will be due, which was the whole point of applying for this current offer in the first place! Not happy Jan!

Holly, I applied for the card some time ago and the application was rejected but the letter from Citibank stated that my credit record was not affected because they didn't perform a credit check (the application was rejected for some other unknown reason). They also invited me to reapply in six months' time.

Not having any faith in what Citibank say, I obtained my credit record from Baycorp Advantage a little while afterwards and I was pleasantly surprised to find that Citibank, true to their word, actually didn't perform a credit check.

If you are concerned that your credit record has been tarnished, you'd be wise to apply for your credit transcript from Baycorp - information can be found here.
 
I was never asked for a tax assessment notice, I think that's probably only for self employed people?

Since i'd applied for too many credit cards last year, I got a copy of my Baycorp credit report and was actually surprised that Amex made 2 enquiries for the one application, 5 days apart! Seems strange I've been meaning to call them about that and ask why that was the case, although i keep forgetting and they probably wouldn't be able to find a reason anyway.

Holly: I can't see a reason why you wouldn't be able to apply for a different credit card (different company i mean) for 6 months? The Baycorp credit file does not record whether you've been approved or declined, it simply states who made the enquiry, what date and some generic stuff, and doesn't list amount of credit granted or declined.
 
It's certainly worth requesting the Baycorp file since it's free to do so and it can give you a much better idea of what info these organisations are getting when they run a 'credit check'.

I had the unusual experience of requesting my file and being told that there WASN'T a file on me, despite me having a credit card and a post-paid mobile, both of which should have been listed. I think it may have something to do with me moving around a lot in the last few years, my address has probably gotten lost in the beurocracy.
 
It was interesting to see that I had 1 entry from 3 for a mobile plan, despite the fact that i've got 2 plans with 3 and also that I was a student at the time and was only meant to be able to have one! Seems they don't bother with a credit check for existing customers.

I originally had the problem of them deciding I didn't exist. Eventually tracked down my file, for some reason they decided to swap my first and middle names around. They still address me by my middle name, which is a bot odd.

I applied 25/01/07 at 16:40 I received the card in todays post on the 14/02/07 thats 21 days, and I'm an existing customer!

No ID check, but 3 phone calls to me to check my details +1 to my payroll officer, and the and my new citibank visa gold card limit?

yup, just 5k on a gold card.

I thought gold cards started at 7k?

don't get me wrong 5k is nice and small, which is the way I like it, just a bit odd is all.

Got rejected here aswell... had an existing gold card with them (se a trend here). I think it might be because my limit was too high ($20k) So I asked them to drop it down to $5k. Will try again when the 6 months is up. Lucky for me that's just 1 month before the annual fee gets charged for next year.

Just an update: finally got my Baycorp file as suggested- unfortunately, Citibank has indeed checked my file & left a mark...:-| Unless there's gonna be a similarly good offer anytime soon, I'm probably not gonna bother applying for Citibank cc's in future, less of all in 6 months' time! I guess that precludes me from applying for another cc soon too (my criteria: no annual fee, reasonable award program), and I'm just gonna have to wear the annual fee of my current card when that comes around in June...:(

Funnily enough, days after my reject from Citibank, I got several unsolicited offers to transfer my card balance to various companies at 0% interest- as many as 2 letters from diff companies on the one day..! Not wanting to sound paranoid but is Citibank sharing info with other companies?!

Wouldn't put it past them. They're marketing tactics aren't exactly what I'd call "ethical".
(Eg: I was offered a Citibank CC at the age of 10. Then 14. Then 17...and so on. I think we figured out the "age 10" details came from a book club I was a member of at the time, and the "age 14 & 17" ones came from IT tradeshows I used to attend. Dodgy.)

The fact that it came from the Phillipines, and so soon after signing up with Citibank leads me to think they've given out my details.

Oviously I have no proof, but I wouldn't put it past them given their shady activities in the past.

after a 3 week wait, i finally received my free for life citibank visa card late last week. many thanks for posting the application link. it sure beats anz's bloated annual fees.
citibank was sure thorough. they called virtually everybody on my app and then wanted tax statements for the past two years. i wasn't too keen to provide this so suggested the agent speak with my banker, which evidently sufficed.

i think it changes to https: when you click on the type of card for which you wish to apply. therefore it should be safe.

Can anyone confirm that the above link is actually for the fee-free card?
When following the link I noticed it said "You are applying for a Gold Visa, 6.9% p.a. for the life of your balance transfer" rather than the fee-free card.

The page where you select what card you are after is not secure.

When clicking on the card you want, the site changes to HTTPS (Secure) website located at the following domain:

https://card.citibank.com.au/

It's safe.
