Just an update, I had actually called citibank customer service, because I had recieved my citibank silver a couple of weeks ago. She told me that I was able to apply for this offer and just cancel my silver one once I got accepted. Unfortunately because I didn't have my silver card for at least 9 months, I wasn't able to get the gold card.

What a shame, I was so excited thinking I would be able to get it, plus the huge saving of no annual fee for life. So, just a heads up for anyone in the same situation as me.

Really really weird, even though I got my rejection letter a couple of weeks I received my fee free gold credit card yesterday. what the? I had even called up customer support when i got my rejection letter to try and rally my case, yet the firm answer was always "no you can't as you have recently received your silver card".

i've just put "pen to paper" and applied for a card via the link..

however i've just been chatting with a friend about it and, he reminded me the citibank incident he had lived through in recent times where, he had signed up to one of those line of credit account and it was offered as a fee free product in the beginning, some months later citibank decided to charge all "line of credit" accounts a once off fee with an additional no fee clause where one must spend $1K via the account!

what's everyone thought on the chance to citibank pulling a stunt like that on these zero annual fee credit card offer?

It is Citibank, so anything can happen. Having got my credit card from them yesterday, and having had a good experience when calling them (I called them and requested them to set by credit card billing cycle date to the 2nd of each month - which they did (and which CBA refused to do)), I have decided to forget the past, and give them a clean slate.

I hope that they don't let me down :).

This is being discussed in http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com.../citibank-readycredit-give-yourself-6028.html

I had a silver Master Card a few years ago with a credit union and cancelled it shortly after Citibank took over the card provider (halved the FF points accural and increased the fee!)

Some weeks after getting my new no-fee gold card I went to use BPay only to find all my old payer information intact?

The weird bit is, that obviously having all my details still on file, they still asked me for the 100 point Id check.

Anybody else notice this?

Citibank seem to be fantastic in linking people profiles. For me, they linked my new credit card up to my profile (savings account) without me asking. The earliest indication that I had been approved for the credit card was because it appeared in my Internet banking. Another poster reported the same.

With Commbank, the customer always needs to spend time linking their accounts together.

So it seems Citibank search for an existing profile to add a new account to before making a new profile.

I was also asked for 100 point ID even I have a current Citibank silver card. They are hopeless

They didn't for me and another poster. Maybe you are unlucky.

Isn't that a good thing? They are ensuring that the person who opened the new account is actually the person they are claiming to be and not someone stealing your details and undertaking identity fraud. You should be very pleased that they impose such checks as part of the standard process.

I currently have a citibank gold. has anyone been able to get them to honor this offer that already has a gold card?
I have always found citibank very non flexible almost to the point of me cancelling my card. the only reason I keep it is for the Hyatt FFNS.
i think ill get Mr t to get the free one and Ill cancel mine.

NOT ME!
I applied for a new Gold card, and plan to cancel my existing one just before the annual fee of $119 is due:mrgreen:;)
It was a PITA thing to do, including changing all my bills which are automatically paid from my Gold card...but $119 per year saved, $1190 saved after 10 years softened the pain al little...

Holly,

I think overstating your income is very risky as odds on they will check with your employer. I think you are better off going for the Silver card as it has a $20K income requirement (the Gold card is $35K+). Same conditions and benefits AFAIK, apart from lacking the probably dodgy international travel insurance.

Also the FF point transfer is limited to the Qantas program, with the only other way to get reward flights being through the Take Flight program with Harvey World Travel. These are not as good value as QFF points at 1-for-1, at least not for existing members, and won't help you with your current schemes.

If you don't want to risk the website (Note - code for Silver Visa is 001 EDPA66YA and Silver Mastercard is 002 EDPA66YA), you can always call them on 13 15 94. So far I've found them to be pleasant to deal with, but YMMV.
Do you know if giving that code for Silver Visa will be a valid offer for no annual fee for life? So the code is 001 EDPA66YA? I've tried it entering this online, but it does not seem to go anywhere...

I'm in the same situation as Holly, moving from CBA student card, and have income of $25000 to satisfy the Silver, but not GOLD.

Thanks in advance
Gaurav

Does anyone feel embarassed using a gold card?

I don't mind using a non status card such as the previous woolworths ezy card, and I don't mind using a standard or silver card (as it shows u don't care) and I don't mind using a Platinum card.

But using a gold card is a little embarassing, as it is like saying you care about status, but you are only are eligible for a gold card.

Gold cards have become so common these days that I think people are trying to have something different.

Anyone think the same?

I honestly think that very few pay any attention to which card people have, and if they do then it's probably that individual who should be embarrassed :!:

To be honest, I don't think the people taking credit cards care one little bit what colour the card is, as long as they are getting their money.

The thing about status is, IMHO, that is is all the in the head of the cardholder.

Ok, so you got your answer in before me. At least we agree on the answer.

(Shame this software won't let me add more images!)

Just thought I would post a few good and bad things about the Citibank Gold card in comparison with other similar products:

Good
- Ability to change statement cycle date (not possible with CBA)
- Up to 4 additional cardholders (most banks only 2)
- Reward points post straight away that the charge shows on Internet banking (about 2 days after merchant charges) (many banks update monthly when statement is issued)

Bad
- Not possible to schedule payments and BPAY transfers in Internet banking

There was nothing actually mentioned in the original sign up sheet, but it will come back as $0 for the additional card. It should be confirmed with your letter of offer which you'll receive in your welcome pack.

If it doesn't say $0 for an additional cardholder, I would ring them and argue the point.

Well the pack arrived today... and we have a winnar!
The letter of offer arrived quite clearly shows $0 for primary and $0 for the secondary cardholder fees. The card's other fees are bad to outrageous, but since I don't plan on missing payments, that doesn't worry me. Strike me up as one happy chappie.

As an aside, the week after I completed my application:
Westpac sent me an offer of a one year free Gold Card
My CU sent me an offer for a Citi Mastercard Gold
AMEX (via Qantas) sent me another Premium Card offer (not a free first year though).

Methinks a CC war is about to start. For those of you who don't plan to apply for a mortgage, now might be a good time to stock up :)
