Anyone know how many active members belong to the QFF program?

What sort of breakdown would there be between WP, SG, PS and NB? I would guess that the majority would be NB followed by PS, SG with the elite WP being the minority.

Just interested to know considering now that velocity has come along and claimed that over 70,000 have joined in the first week alone. :!:

Based on my recent survey of 100% of the people here in my office, and extrapolating over the population of Australia, I can only conclude that there are almost 20 Million QF FF members, all of whom are Platinum.

Oh, wait a minute. Mrs NM just arrived home so I will re-take the survey and adjust the results. Now I have 20 Million members, 50% of which are Platinum and 50% are Gold.

Of course this based on the assumption that Mini NM#4 was not born when the last census was taken and so it not included in the base population estimate of 20 Million.

For more accurate numbers you will need to get them from Qantas. However, I expect anyone with access to those details will be keeping them very much out of the public domain.

Pshaw!! There can't be any more than 29, because if I'm usually sitting in 738 row 6, only the crowd in front of me must be elites.

I've often wodered who all those other people are in the QP though....

Must keep taking the pills.

I recall seeing recently that there were 5 million Australian "members" of the Qantas Club. Couldn't find the article though, and no breakdown of status, as suggested above.

I would be very surprised if Qantas knew how many of it's FF members are actually active.

There are 4.5 million Frequent Flyers.
0.5 million have status
60,000 are Platinum

Very interesting. Where did you get information from?

By status are you referring to WP, SG and PS?

If 60,000 are platinum, of the remaining 440,000 do you have breakdown of gold and silver?

Thanks. :D

I wouldn't have thought that would be too hard.

By active we would be referring to qff member with activity in the last 3 years as per Qantas guidelines. All that is required is a 1 character flag in database A(ctive)/N(ot active), 0/1 (on,off), Y/N. Active flag can be updated by computer real-time.

How many active qff members. Run SQL to provide number of all active qff members. :D

Bear in mind that quite a number of those people will really have joined to accumulate credit card points, and probably fly very little.

Anyway, I'm very pleased to have requalified as Gold last week, with another seven months to go. Perhaps I'll make Platinum for the first time ever this financial year!

60,000 Platinums.....WOOOW    I thought maybe 5,000-10,000 tops!!

I roughly calculated to keep Platinum status each year doing normal domestic or international trips (no RTW etc) the average spend would be around $15-20k, give or take, times that by 60,000, and you get a turn over of $900-1200 Million dollars just from Platinum pax......

Where did I get it from? Now that would be telling.

Don't have a breakdown of gold/silver. Sorry.

Platinum can be achieved for just $5000 a year - I've done it.

That is the idea.

This information may just as easily be obtained from the source, if we knew who/what the source was.

Do tell. Secrets aren't any good if you don't tell someone. :D

JohnK - you've already read a couple of ways here on AFF.

An ex-TIP F ticket is one.

A suitably constructed DONE4 with part in one membership year and part in another is very nearly enough for WP status for 2 years.

Yes, it can be done, but I bet the average spend by Plats is WAY ahead of that figure.

My spend last year would have been more like $50K. But I did do more than just requalify for Plat  .

The numbers don't surprise me - those mentioned by odoherty with status I would take to mean Silver, Gold or Platinum (as Bronze is the base level).

If there are 4.5m FF members, 500K of which are "status" members and 60,000 are Platinum, then Plat members represent 12% of those with status and 1.3% of the overall number. That sounds correct statistically. Further analysis of the numbers show that 88.8% are Bronze; so the combined percentage of Silver and Gold members are 10%.

I would think that about 3% are Gold and around 7% Silver (or numerically, ~135K Gold and ~315K Silver members)

You are right again. I must not drink anymore alcohol. Memory is blurred. :D

Not sure whether this one achieves for ~$5000. :?

How about 1000 SCs for A$3731 (plus taxes)? I think that is a better deal than any OneWorld Explorer can achieve.

Quite simple really. The hard part is getting to the starting point :D and getting a Visa may be tricky.

Now, in Club Europe, you earn 80 SCs from TIP to LHR. Then earn 240 SCs from LHR-SIN in First and 180 SCs from SIN-SYD in F. Then the same for the return and that adds up to 1000 SCs.

The difficult part is that this fare (fare basis AFFAFR) is only availble ex TIP for the return journey.
Not sure what taxes are involved but don't think you can get from Aus to Libya for under $1000 to make the other 400 SC's required.

Forgot about this one

I'm 30% of the way through a DONE4 wich I worked out with the help of Kiwi Flyer, I have earnt 560 SC's from 6 sectors already and have bookings for the other 14 that will earn another 1800. This gives a total of 2,360 SC's! If I had wanted to go to Pakistan rather than Japan and a place (I cant remember) in the Middle East rather than Dubai it would have totalled 2400 SC's. I will also earn about 125,000 ff points directly from flying. More when you include the 25,000 I will get in 'loyalty' bonus's  .

This cost about AUD8050 ex CMB (Sri Lanka); that includes all taxes. It cost me 50,000 pts & $130 to get to CMB to collect the tickets and start the journey.

With positioning sectors this is about $3.50 per SC.
Enough to requalify for 2 years if already platinum. Cost would be closer to $10000 to get 2600 SC's, but still within the $5000/pa to achieve platinum.

and don't forget the SC earning value if YUP and YUPP. $5000 of carefully selected YUP could probably bring in 1200 SCs or more.

And if one is already going to places close to Libya, then an F fare for under $4000 from there is a very good start to a year's status chase.

It would be really interesting to know the average composition of a flight - ie how many CL, WP etc.

The thing about platinums is that they fly a lot

As such there are always a heap on the plane!

Some quick analysis yesterday of boarding passes as people filed past had WPs in the aisle on a 737NG SYD - BNE back to about row 11. Assuming there are just as many with a window preference that would have over 24 WP and CL on the flight + business class (and last minute flight changes further back in the cabin).

Anyone done any similar research or have any real numbers?

YUP, xCIR22 to get to the land of the free and then some carefully placed YUP fares. Another good idea.

Now that is what I call a real status run. Travel to Europe, buy an F return fare back to Australia and then return again on original return airfare. Have a feeling ASIO or CTU may be trailing you if there are too many trips in and out of Libya.

All in all very good suggestions how to maintain WP. :D Thanks.
