Anyone having trouble finding good Fasa jasa's to LHR these days? I can't find any... =(

It was only a little while ago I was looking at 2 x FASA SYD-LHR at classic points level plus $3000 taxes in Feb/Mar. I should have snapped them up but wasn't sure if I could get the time off (and I was wondering about the points refund scenario). Now they have gone. Moral of my story - you snooze you lose!

FWIW, I just did a dummy booking for Jul and the $ value was $483 with the same points @ 96,000.

Hi all - was doing some calculations for a similar run after reading the thread, then came up with a conundrum. Would anyone care to shed some light on why one gains more status points flying from Melbourne rather than Sydney? For instance, using the same route as in the OP:

MEL-SyD-ALS = 4393 + 120 status points (JASA with my WP status)
SYD-MEL-ALS = 4140 + 100 status
ALS-SYD-MEL = 3514 + 60 status (YASA in full economy, 30 status in discount economy)
ALS-MEL-SYD = 3312 + 50 status (YASA in full economy, 25 status in discount)

Any suggesions, guesses, reasoning, etc?

As I mentioned in posts above, I missed out on 2 FASA's SYD-LHR-SYD. Now for the life of me I cannot find two. There seems to be next to no availability for FASA's on this route however there are lots of single seats MEL-LHR-MEL at the cheap points rate 511,972 or 384,000 + $1563.99 (which is the option I will take because I only have 850,000 points.
My question is, when people mention getting extra award seats released, has anyone had any success getting an extra seat release in this same cheap fare bucket? I have checked Flight Stats but it doesn't go out that far to see what the fare availability is like. Heres hoping...

That's the standard U class JASA return SYD-MEL-SYD (32K + ~$170) x 3.I

IMHO, it's poor value unless you are points rich.

1200 miles. SYD-ASP is just over 1200 miles so counts as zone 3 for SC earn. MEL-ASP is just under 1200 miles so counts as zone 2 for SC earn.

Because SYD-ASP is 1256 miles and MEL-ASP is 1156 miles and the cut off for earning in the next tier of Status Credits is 1200 miles.

All JASA's on QF Flight number/metal earn points/SC's.

These flights as a return would earn 80SC's and 2500 each all up (2x 40SC's and 1125) - status/class bonus on 439 miles is still less than 1125 min. point earn.

Unless you are doing this purely for the SC's, 850k points is enough for 2x oneWorld RTW in F (420k ea). That would let you route SYD-LHR-JFK-LAX-SYD (or some equivalent routing, you can have up to 5 stopovers). If you're doing this for a holiday then I think you get more value this way, ie: see more places, more F travel = happier partner. That routing might also work better as you could use CX/BA/AA for flights as well, and you're more likely to get an extra seat opened for you on a classic award. Downside is no points + SC.

Hi to all,

I think this is a very good way of getting the SC up and I would like to do this as well.

Can anyone tell me if my calculations are correct or not on the following schedule based on J class travel?

Syd - Alice = 80 SC
Alice - Perth = 40 SC (economy only available)
Perth - Sydney = 80 SC
Sydney - Alice - Sydney = 160

This would be a total of 360 SC and with the current promotion would double to 720 SC

Do I use points to do this?

If so how do i find out how many are required?
