Yes but no points or SC earn.

I did say that. You don't get points or SC's if you can't find a FASA either...

Re: First status run kicking off soon. Qantas lady thought I was playing a joke on he

So I have my first Status run coming up this weekend to take advantage of the DSC promotion. I called Qantas to merge 2 separate bookings together and the lady thought I was playing a joke on her when she brought up the flight info and then proceeded to ask me 3 times if I was sure I knew what I was doing. This is going to be a weekend to remember (i'm not sure if its something I would want to tell too many people about though)

I currently need 660 status credits to achieve WP for the first time with a rollover of Nov 30. This is what my weekend currently looks like:

Saturday 26[SUP]th[/SUP] May
Melbourne to Sydney 7:00 / 08:25 - JASA
Sydney to Alice Springs 09:50 / 12:35 - JASA
Alice Springs to Sydney 13:20 / 16:35 - YASA
Sydney to Melbourne 18:00 / 19:35 - YASA

Sunday 27[SUP]th[/SUP] May
Melbourne to Alice Springs – 08:35 / 11:00 - JASA
Alice Springs to Sydney 1:20 / 16:35 - JASA
Sydney to Melbourne 5:15 / 18:50 – JASA

EARN: 660 status credits + 13,945 + 5,000 = 18,945

TOTAL COST: $495 / 65,055 points

Can you advise why it costs $495.00?

Thank you.

Glenn

Re: First status run kicking off soon. Qantas lady thought I was playing a joke on he

Hi to all,

I think this is a very good way of getting the SC up and I would like to do this as well.

Can anyone tell me if my calculations are correct or not on the following schedule based on J class travel?

Syd - Alice = 80 SC
Alice - Perth = 40 SC (economy only available)
Perth - Sydney = 80 SC
Sydney - Alice - Sydney = 160

This would be a total of 360 SC and with the current promotion would double to 720 SC

Do I use points to do this?

If so how do i find out how many are required?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Glenn - Sydney

Have a read of post 1 in this thread. It explains how to book a JASA.....make sure you don't book classic as you do not earn points or status credits with these award bookings.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Okay so let me get this right in my head...

A QF J Class Ticket BNE/SYD/ADL/BNE will cost me $2593 for the dates I need to travel. Using the JASA (whatever you guys call it lol), I can book the same flights for $293.76 + 64,000 points (max permitted)? So does this mean I will earn FF points + SC? OMG why didn't I discover this sooner?

Also, can the same be done with DJ?

Yes to FF and SC earn.
No to DJ.

J = J Class (Business)
ASA = Any Seat Award

Because they're getting the toasters and gift cards, and that makes life sweeter for us here ;)

... FWIW it may have been only been since early last year that ASA's could earn QFF points/SC's. ;)

Actually it was April 2010.

Two years of QF watching their points liability not climbing as much as it used to - although we are trying hard to use EDR to the max.

This J seat experience - the only way to fly domestically

That's why I posted "may have" ...

Looking back, in July 2010 I did book a JASA MEL-SIN for June 2011 with the awareness of the point/SC earn.

Certainly a comfortable way - but if you need to get from A to B, they really come in to their own on flights to Europe or the Americas. :D

I booked a FASA LHR-MEL once, made WP later that year and have no regrets at all. Being a self-funded traveller I'll be remembering that flight for a long time to come.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

So I loaded LHR-SIN for a WP and with 240 SCs and 20k points back make that FASA Saver a very good booking on QF.(using ferni post of the calculator)
Had been regularly doing SQ in First at 154k each way SIN-LHR and no status so I had lost sight of QF starting to be a little more competitive.

Globetrotter,

Can you please tell me why you pay $293.76 + 64,000 points??

Is the cash just for the taxes??

Or are you using points plus pay??

Many thanks,

Parksie
