re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Has anyone scored two FASA's on the one flight before and if so would you be willing to share the method?
Looking for two seats SYD-HKG next year.
One booked already, not yet telephoned to request one but will do as a last ( likely unsuccessful ) resort :(

I scored 2 JASA SYD-SIN, 2 FASA SIN-LHR and 2 FASA LHR-(DXB)-SYD earlier this year. I requested an upgrade to F on the JASA and got it. All flights were A380. All flights cost around 800,000 and didn't need any tricks. I just searched for the flights and then booked the holiday around it.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I see two P class seat on LAX-MEL in June next year, so they do exist.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

AFAIK, you need to have P class availability for this to work - something to keep in mind.

While acknowledging that I've never done it - only read about it - I don't believe that is the case based on what is posted in http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-program/jasa-cash-upgrade-to-fasa-28716.html. That thread makes it sound like it's always possible, but P class availability makes it seriously cheap.

Thanks :)
I have one FASA and one JASA on the same flight, I'll call up and see if the JASA can be upgraded.

Make sure you ask for a WP-F-award-seat-release at the same time (and then JASA->FASA upgrade into that seat) so it's as cheap as possible.

Again, ref http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-program/jasa-cash-upgrade-to-fasa-28716.html.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I flew my JASA status run over the weekend (and first flights in domestic business). While I've flown international business to South America previously, I didn't appreciate just how well treated domestic business passengers are! The food was top quality (breakfast Saturday, lunch yesterday). The ambience is great and the on-call attendant very handy. Would definitely consider again.

Did same recently on double SC run CNS/SYD/PER/SYD/CNS could not fault the QF crew and food was well presented and excellent.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I just looking for a clarification on this please.

I'm looking at an example flying BNE to Broome. I picked 4th Oct for the outbound and 13th Oct for return. Looking for seats that had J availability for the entire routing I found the following for the J Classic Award:

  • QF767/QF1074 outbound
  • QF1031 return

At the bottom of the page is says 96000 points required, however when I click on review it says 86000 points plus $136.33. (Sub-question: I don't understand where the 10000 point apparent discount has come from. Can you help explain that?).

For the same flights on a JASA, the result is 72000 (minimum) points and $512.33.

For the same flights booked normally in a Red e-Deal the cost is $953 plus card charges.

So, I read the JASA as good value as compared to the Red e-Deal and exceptionally good value compared to booking and paying for J outright, but it seems as though I'm missing something in the comparison with the Classic Award.

Can anybody clarify please?

TIA.

Generally minimum points for JASA has been based on Great Circle distance between origin and destination. Classic award 'trips' are based on segment distance.

It's for this reason AKL-xMEL/SYD/BNE-LAX (~6500mi) has been of 84,000 points minimum while SYD-LAX is 96,000 (~7500mi) points minimum. AKL-xSYD-LAX as a Classic award has a minimum of 112,000 QFF points.

Points for classic and points for ASAs are based on different formula.

For a classic, add the length of the segment together, to get the zone it is based on (So in your case BNE-PER-BME = 2244+1042 = 3286 miles = zone 4 = 50,000 points required, and BME-BNE requires 36,000 to return, so 86,000 altogether)

For a ASA, it is great circle distance both ways, so 36,000 * 2 = 72,000 points

The add the various taxes, surcharges on!

Thanks oz_mark, that makes sense.

The primary reason for my post, which I now realise I didn't make clear, is, in my example, am I getting the JASA for the Classic Award level? Is the comparison based solely on the points? An individual then makes their own judgement on whether the additional cash is worth it or not?

Is my example a typical example where the cash component of the JASA is more than the Classic Award cash component but less than the Red e-Deal fare?

I suppose I'm trying to establish the benchmark for a good deal when booking a JASA.

Thanks again.

It depends upon what you are after. In general a single segment xASA will cost more in Cash and points up front than an equivalent Classic award but has the beneifit of being points/SC's earning.

Those in premium cabins can give a relatively low cost per SC.

Thanks serfty. In that case I think I am happy with those that I have booked previously before I found this site. I don't mind paying the equivalent of, or less than, the Red e-Deal in cash and using some points to fly J and earn points and SC. Although the points burn is more than booking the Red -eDeal and upgrading to J the paltry SC in Discount Y justify it IMO.

Thanks for all the replies.

I guess this thread will need an update in the OP?

Re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thre

Think its a bit premature to label this thread "Now Gone" given these fares are, at least for now, available via the call centre, albeit the guide will need an update.

Yep the ( Now gone) will need to go back in three months though it seems

Re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thre

I'm thinking you'll have to call. I've taken QF127 / 128 about a dozen times in the last year and never seen more than P1 available.
And when it's gone, it stays gone.
I stand corrected - just seen P2 appear for tomorrow's QF128, so it can happen. They weren't there yesterday.

Did you set EF for an alert or just search for loadings manually?

Re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thre

Hi Everyone,

This is probably going to be a silly question. But now that the method outlined in this thread is now defunked (by the sounds of things). Could someone who is smarter and more experienced than me go over what is the best current way to book xASA and get the best SC for your FF. This may sound funny, but over the last few years, I have been racking up QFF points but never actually used any of them, I have about 230k points and remember a time when I used to look through the Qantas site where you could get a flight from Perth to Brisbane for abtou 40-50k QFF points, now I can't seem to find anything under 160k!

I am sure there are ways of getting good deals still, so if anyone would like to shed some light on it for me or better yet... maybe someone really clever could write another thread like this one that details current methods. Don't mean to sound demanding at all but it would be a really big help.

Cheers,

Re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thre

For any seat awards where you get points and status points try here, used to be online now its a lottery who you get on the phone.

The flights are there, check classic awards just choose flexible with dates and class you want to fly. if less than two months then it can be more expensive.

PER/SYD Nov. in Y 36K points and $80
PER/SYD Nov. in j 72K points and $80

I use my points mainly for long haul overseas flights. usually better value.

Re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thre

I am holding some of these any seat awards and may need to change has anyone recently been able to successfully change. I remember when I was booking the reps were clueless they will be even more so now!
