Have you tried to redeem an mh award?
Yep.

I find the website is not user friendly. Tried to see what I could do with points+pay and I think it takes off ~AUD20 for a KUL-SIN flight in Jun for the lounge crawl.

In saying that when I checked I was looking to credit to QFF. Now I don't care so a saving is a saving.

I recently booked J SYD-CDG (oneway), would have been 1000+~$1500. I ended up doing full points plus $481. In general, I would have through Oz to Asia might be 1000 +$500-$1000

Depending on origin you can get revenue fare return from SE Asia to Australia in J for around $2k during sales. Which is of course points earnings. The other option is to play upgrade lottery with paid MHupgrade. Which could mean J for as low as $1200 - $1500 return.
