Noise Cancelling Headphones

I also have the Sennheiser PXC 300 headphones. What I really like about them is the portability as eagle mentioned, they fold up into a little case half the thickness of a paperback, which is good for me as I always have carry-on only, and they are comfortable to wear for extended periods, they are light, and don't put much pressure on the ear.

I think my Shure E3s are going to be smaller and lighter .

Hi NM and fellow readers,
One of the ebay.com.au sellers now sells Shure E3 (no C or G in the name, sllightly different packaging and colours of the headphones). What's the story? (it is item 300023056302)

Anyone noticed this (new? changed?) particular E3?

Will be pretty tempted to get these, but may wait until the next iPod comes out (we'll see).

Cheers & goodnight!

The "C" in the product name indicated its the "Consumer" version. The E3c are white in colour. The E3 (non-consumer version) as as per my photo and grey.

Appart from the colour, they are all the same technical specs.

I bought the original 'noisebuster' version about 10 or more years ago, they worked OK but never got them back after loaning them to a friend. In the last year I upgraded, buying 2 pairs of the new 'Noisebuster' version from Aircraft Spuce in the USA. Cost worked out to A$75 each including postage to Oz. They fold up (although not as compact as some), work great and you cant beat the price! The new ones have far less power draw, a single AAA battery lasts for ages, plus they plug into the aircraft sound system and very significantly enhance the sound quality of the program.

I don't like the idea of spending $500+ on a travel ascessory that could get trashed in luggage, left behind somewhere even though it may work a little better. But I guess I'm just cheap! ;)

As a related topic (and I know this seems a bit dim) but can I use my regular 1 pin headphones in the Skybeds/other J calss seats? Having not flown much J class until recently its one of the sorts of questions I get embarassed about asking...

Hi,
FYI these connections into seats, I recall using iPod headphones in WHY seats (mono though), in case you're desperate to plug in. I think it was to tune into CH 9 rather than the entertainment! The iPod was useful for US Y flights now that everything is for sale rather than included in the fare

You will need a two pin adaptor for the skybed.

They should cost less than $10, but I am not sure where to get any in Oz.

(Here's a link to the site I got that image from)

Hmm - I will have to check my little bag of ticks to see what I have :) I know I have something that takes one jack from say a ipod or laptop and converts it to two outputs but I will have to work out if I have the reverse - and who said flying was not interesting :)

D*ck Smith sells those little jiggers for $4.95

dse.com.au --search for aircraft adaptor.

Bugger - wish I had seen this yesterday - could have bought one in town - ah well - maybe for my next flight :)

Anyone seen or used Altec Lansing iM716s?

Who knows what "technology by Etymotic Reaseach" means - do they make them, licence them under a patent?

Anyway, this, and the slightly cheaper iM616 look like resonable prices for an in-ear device.

THANKS NM..

Just returned from 3 weeks in the USA. Flew J Class on points, the trip over was quiet but the return flight last night had several children in J, and you can imagine it was difficult for the parents to keep them quiet for 14 hrs. However, thanks to NM's advice about the Shure E3c the kids could have screamed all night if they wanted to and you can't hear them. The in-ear E3c shures are great, they are comfortable and my ears don't get warm like they did when I had the normal bose headphones. (PS Thanks again NM for the advice on the Dockers never iron trousers, how good are they after a long flight)

hehehe we will soon be able to recognise AFF members on long-haul flights. They are the ones wearing the never-iron Dockers and the E3s stuck in their ears oblivious to the noise around them  . Glad you find those things worked for you.

So........does anyone recommend the Bose QC3s over the QC2s?

Anyone purchased them? (the QC3s)

The noise cancelling ability of the QC2 and QC3 are basically the same. The main difference is that the QC3 is an "on the ear" design while the QC2 is an "over the ear" design. It really comes down to what you find most comfortable to wear. Audio capabilities are basically the same for QC2 and QC3.

I sw the shure series on sales in BKK airport - first time I had seen them on sale anywhere. It was very tempting - they had EC2/3/4 and then some others in a black box - they lookoed very nice...

Altec Lansing and Etymotic Research had some kind of partnership to create the inMotion brand (from memory aimes at the iPod market). The iM716 is basically a consumer grade version of Etymotics ER4 (Etymotic Research, Inc. - ER-4 MicroPro Insert Earphones). I understand the iM716 and the ER4 do share some common parts.
