Have been trying to look for a redemption ticket on a QF flight from HKG to SYD since early Jan 2015. All days were blank with no availability.

When I check on the QF redemption opening up in Feb everyday, Qantas never release any business class redemption on direct flights in Feb as well.

It seems that they did not even border to open any business redemption in Jan and Feb 2016 for us to use our points.

Any thought to share?

Can't help your unique situation but I have been struggling with business class award HKG-SYD mid September or early December. A sprinkling of some CX flights on unsuitable days but I also prefer the QF 747 to the CX A330.

My only hope is to request a business class seat to be released for a Platinum. Not everyone has that option though.

Jan is peak holiday, this has always been an issue with QF. Other FF programs have availability even in holidays, draw your own conclusions.

Christmas at the beginning, Chinese New Year at the end

They want people to redeem with CX!

Suits me - CX J is a superior product IMO.

It may not be perfect but there is some availability on HKG-MNL-SYD in J (e.g Jan 6).

As a person who DID get a CX J redemption using QF points to HKG (see what I did there ;), which lounge do I use in SYD?

You could use the Qantas Business Lounge at the International airport. Quite a lot of choices of F&B.
