Hi all,

Just booked a rewards flight for my wife and I from SYD -> LAX, however when I attempt advance seat selection, the system tries to charge me $25 per seat.

I was under the impression that Silver (me), Gold and Platinum members were afforded complimentary cough...is this still true?

I can't even redeem my points to pay for the seats either because it's greyed out.

Anyone know what's going on?

Cheers.

I would call the call centre, as if you were eligible for it, they should be able to sort it for you.

Welcome to AFF whiteside. When you say just do you mean in the last few minutes? Is the booking showing in your QFF account? If so go through your account and try again.

If you're still having problems give the call centre a ring.

As a Silver I would have thought you could do it. But not sure. Call them and tell us how you went.

Thanks for the help guys, the booking shows up in my account, and lets me choose seats, it's just that it then tries to charge me for them!

If you all think it's a mistake and don't have a quick fix, I'll give them a bell. Thanks anyway.

edit:
Never mind, read the wrong section... Turns out you should get advanced seating.

Interesting, i booked a flight within 24hrs of departure and was able to select row 4 (738). Even T-80 seems to restrict some people these days.

Has anyone else found this?

Ended up getting it sorted...for some unknown reason my FF# hadn't been linked to the booking (even though it was a rewards flight and my wife's FF# had been entered!?). It didn't even make a difference that I was "managing my booking" from within my FF account (where it clearly knows I'm silver). I had to manually enter my FF# and then all was good.

Unfortunately I couldn't sneakily access a Premium Economy seat to LAX as I did a few years ago when I was a mere bronze hah (has anyone else managed this, and if so why does it work sometimes and sometimes not?).

Thanks a lot.

Silver do not get advance seat selection. Mum is silver and has had to pay for seat selection on international flights.

PS are eligible for complimentary seat selection: (Qantas Seat Selection | Advance Seat Selection)
Available directly after booking at qantas.com, Advance Seat Selection is complimentary if:

  • You are travelling on any Qantas operated domestic service.
  • You are travelling internationally in First, Business or Premium Economy cabins.
  • You are a Platinum, Gold or Silver Frequent Flyer or equivalent oneworld Frequent Flyer.
  • You are on the same booking and travelling with any of the above mentioned travellers.

That is not correct.
I'd suggest she got incorrectly charged...

Not true - Dr FM is silver and she has always been able to select seats on international flights - only pays for exit rows......

According to Qantas you can select your seat from reserved zones within your booked cabin and according to your FF status.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That was only Happening when QF were introducing Y+ into the fleet, and when they had four class birds (or 3) operating routes that did not have on of the classes for sale.

Grrr....I've got an upcoming flight and the website wants to hit me for $25 to select a seat. My FF number is in the booking and doesn't seem anyway of updating it........
