So for Xmas I bought a few gift cards from Coles. I figured I may as well capitalize on the double velocity status credits for December offer.

However after checking my flybuys app I see that I received no flybuys points for any of the gift card purchases from Coles. This is definitely either an error or a recent change as I can see that I have received points for gift card purchases as recently as mid october.

I bought an Uber $50 gift card on 10 December and received the 50 Flybuys points + the 2000 Flybuys bonus points the next day. Also bought a $100 visa gift card on wifes account and received 100 Flybuys points + 2000 Flybuys points the next day.

On 31 December bought $200 Virgin and $100 gift cards and points already in account.

We're sorry for any confusion regarding collecting points from gift card purchases. It is up to each flybuys partner to determine any products that are excluded from collecting flybuys points, and these are subject to change. Currently at Coles Supermarkets, you won't collect flybuys points for purchases of Coles, Coles Express, Liquorland, First Choice Liquor, Kmart, Target or "Coles Group and Myer" gift cards. Note that for all of these members will collect flybuys points when they subsequently use them to pay or part pay for purchases at those retailers (except Myer), recognising of course that it may be a different member if the card has actually been gifted. However, for other gift cards sold at Coles Supermarkets, (e.g. the Uber card as quoted above), you will collect flybuys points upon purchase and there are occasionally bonus promotions for them.

Thanks. Guess I know for next time, unless the rules change before then.

Remember, you're average spending will go up if you buy any type of gift cards and scan your flybuys cards. This means there will be an increase in the spend amounts in your targeted offers. I decided not to scan my card when I bought third party gift cards as Christmas gifts so my offer targets wouldn't go up.

It depends on the card. Generally, my experience is that Coles related ones don't earn points, while others do.

I'm not so sure. Here is the T's and C's below of an offer for a bonus points offer (bold part pointing on said exclusion). This is the same text I see on other offers as well, so either you or @JohnK have been lucky due to possibly a glitch in the system or some other special promotion that Flybuys alluded to in his post.

@flybuys are you able to provide some clarification here. I'm not referring to the allocation of points awarded for spend as you have clarified that, more the point 2 posters above have made about gifts cards being eligible spend for bonus point offers.

Offer valid only at Coles Supermarkets and Coles Online (excluding Coles Express and purchases through eBay or Uber Eats), subject to store availability. To check whether we deliver to your area visit shop.coles.com.au. Eligible Coles Online orders must be placed and delivered or collected within the weekly dates to qualify. $100 or more must be spent in one transaction, after all savings, discounts and vouchers each week for 2 consecutive weeks. Offer is available once per flybuys account. $100 transaction excludes purchases of all gift cards, iTunes cards, tobacco and tobacco related products and Coles Online delivery fees. BONUS POINTS will be loaded to your account after your week 2 qualifying shop. You have been specifically selected for this offer and it is not transferable. This offer has been sent to you by flybuys. flybuys' privacy policy applies. Standard flybuys terms and conditions apply and are available at flybuys.com.au.

I use my wifes card for gift cards and the pooled Velocity status credits that go with the spend. They currently offer 2500/3000 bonus points for $180 spend.

My account has the weekly $50 spend offers and don't usually spend more than $55 per week on the card. Any other spend goes on wifes account.

@GSP there may have been some confusion with my post. I don't get the weekly spend bonus points with gift cards, only the bonus associated with the gift card promotion.

Recently there was a 2000 bonus point promotion for $100 Virgin gift cards so bought a few and then try to book flights with the additional 5%-10% discount codes.

The terms and conditions for promotions such as the two or four-week spend promotions are correct. For these, all gift card purchases are excluded from counting towards spend targets for these promotions. We appreciate this may be confusing given there are occasional bonus point promotions specific to some gift cards (e.g. Uber gift cards).

I have purchased Ebay gift cards previously and always received Flybuys points.

The recent transaction was just 3 weeks ago

I've been buying Coles gift cards for years & found out that points are only earned when the recipient spends the value on the cards
