Hi gang,
The future father and mother in law had ~550k EY miles sitting in their account. They were discussing going to the UAE in the new year. I chimed in with "why pay the $18,000 quoted for 2xF MEL-AUH R/T when you could just do a redemption using your EY miles?"
After some bewildered looks I got onto their account, and sure enough booked them 2xF seats to fly out boxing day and come back early jan. ~400k miles + $400 in taxes.
Miles were deducted, payment went through, got a confirmation and a booking reference, even chose their seats.
Everything was looking sweet. I was stoked at how easy this was, as I'd never actually done it myself before (not with EY at least).
Next day a message is left to call back EY, they need to confirm the CC details.
"apologies sir, but that ticket doesn't exist anymore. We have cancelled it. You can get business class instead, it shouldn't have generated you a ticket, that was a black out day"
"No, I want F, I'll fly the next day if there's availability"
"Sure no problems, let me speak to my supervisor, I will call back in an hour with a new booking reference, confirmed tickets, etc etc"
A day passes, no contact.
Call back EY: "Thanks for your concern, we will look into this, it may take up to 10 business days"
10+ business days have past since. No contact from EY. Tried calling twice, emailing again and again - same generic response.
Now I look like the fool for recommending the joy of award redemption's, and EY still have their miles and cash for the taxes/surcharges.
Basically I'm looking for advice from the wiser FF'ers as to how to proceed in this. Many thanks in advance for everyone's time!
Cheers,
Alex
