Hi gang,

The future father and mother in law had ~550k EY miles sitting in their account. They were discussing going to the UAE in the new year. I chimed in with "why pay the $18,000 quoted for 2xF MEL-AUH R/T when you could just do a redemption using your EY miles?"

After some bewildered looks I got onto their account, and sure enough booked them 2xF seats to fly out boxing day and come back early jan. ~400k miles + $400 in taxes.

Miles were deducted, payment went through, got a confirmation and a booking reference, even chose their seats.

Everything was looking sweet. I was stoked at how easy this was, as I'd never actually done it myself before (not with EY at least).

Next day a message is left to call back EY, they need to confirm the CC details.

"apologies sir, but that ticket doesn't exist anymore. We have cancelled it. You can get business class instead, it shouldn't have generated you a ticket, that was a black out day"

"No, I want F, I'll fly the next day if there's availability"

"Sure no problems, let me speak to my supervisor, I will call back in an hour with a new booking reference, confirmed tickets, etc etc"

A day passes, no contact.

Call back EY: "Thanks for your concern, we will look into this, it may take up to 10 business days"

10+ business days have past since. No contact from EY. Tried calling twice, emailing again and again - same generic response.

Now I look like the fool for recommending the joy of award redemption's, and EY still have their miles and cash for the taxes/surcharges.

Basically I'm looking for advice from the wiser FF'ers as to how to proceed in this. Many thanks in advance for everyone's time!

Cheers,

Alex

Papa,

Did you receive a conformation ticket/itinerary at all from EY?

P.S This is not the fashion thread.. :D

Jesus, small world. You don't post on OCAU as Hummel? :S

Received confirmation ticket and an itinerary from EY, to my understanding, yes. Will have to confirm this with them this afternoon.

Thanks for the help so far!

Post as skymist but anyways...

*If* you've got a confirmed reservation/itenary I would be digging in my heels and fighting. Do the folks have any status? Quite possible with that many miles? Have you tried using the PNR to see if anything comes up on checkmytrip etc

Figured this deserved some finality to it.

Ended up calling Amex Centurion telling them to cancel all the hotel reservations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and pass on the message to Etihad that 'never again' would they fly. Phone call back an hour later from someone senior at EY who was willing to honour the existing reservation.

Future father in law doesn't make idle threats, and told them to shove it and how poor the customer service was, etc etc etc

So now I'm finding them an award booking using amex miles for their xmas holidays.

On the plus side, I may be coming into 500,000 etihad miles. So I guess I'll have to work out how to best spend them! Haha

Thanks Hummel for the help :)

Yeah apparently he's dead serious, never again. Won't even use the miles to fly with them, but wants his daughter and I to abuse the cough out of them.

I'm finding MEL-AUH-JFK R/T for $2400 Y, and then 200,000 miles pp RT to go to J.

Thoughts?

I can get to SIN on staff travel QF; not wasting these to get me there! :p
