Stash from today's tastings in the Mornington. Main Ridge Estate in particular are still producing flawless Pinots and Chadonnays and don't get anywhere near the press they deserve (probably because of the small quantities produced)

Shh. Fight club 🙂
+1 Main Ridge, though it's probably been a while for me - I miss (chatting with) Nat

Three Yarra Valley Pinots. Similar age, slightly different price range but somehow I managed to get them around $20 each through various discounts.

The only one that truly impressed was Rochford while the other two were a bit meh.

to be fair, that Rochford is/was a $50+ wine sold by Langton's for $35 before discounts :)

The very first vintage from the son of...

He only made two wines so far, Chardonnay and PN. Both scored 95 points from TWF, remarkable achievement for such a young winemaker on his first attempt.

I loved this PN which feels more French than Aussie with distinctive red fruits (cherry, raspberry) notes. Should probably be cellared for a few more years but I was keen to try this one early :)

looking forward to eventually opening my birth-year bottle :)

Thanks. Trying to not miss out on the Lamella this year!

totally delicious, especially at $30, reminiscent of fellow Kiwi favourite, 2016 Dog Point - definitely the best value chardonnay at that price, ahead of my other current buy also pictured, 2017 La Chablisienne Cote de Lechet, though all of these were/are topped by 2017 Domaine Servin Montee de Tonnerre - wish I had ordered more than a few bottles of that

Great post. Some cracking wines amongst that bunch 👍

My modest contribution - I had been meaning to try a Timo Mayer wine for a while, so it jumped out at me when perusing the wine list last night.

Really delicious stuff. Looking forward to trying more in the future.

I am also a fan of the Dog Point, bought the 2018 this year and is in a similar vein to the 2016. The match stick/reductive character is more pronounced in the DP. Had a Tremblay-Marchive Pre Cru Vau de Vey 2019 (chablis) last night and it was smashing for $45 (VM).

Purchased this at the members tasting last November. They actually had it open to try. I couldn't resist and purchased a bottle. I'm kicking myself that I only bought one. This is spectacular! For the record this is now called the Abercombie.

I have some ‘12 Abercrombie I picked up on an EpiQure sale for a steal half a dozen years or so ago - has anyone tried this recently? I haven’t tried one yet, was thinking I would wait until they were ~12 for the first as they seem to be a wine that ages well?
Should I be holding off a bit longer?

TWF give a drinking window to ‘39..... (& 97 points, “You could cellar this for just about ever.”)

We did a Abercombie vertical last year. Write-up is here Howard Park “Abercrombie” Cabernet Sauvignon vertical tasting - The Auswine Forum

This was possibly one of the best tastings I'd been in to in terms of everyone was absolute quality. Anything considered a "lesser" wine was still in it's own right stunning. They drank well young and age well.

Given you have six, I'd say crack one and give it a whirl. You have plenty more.

Mrs H has put in a special request for tonight: My signature Rib filet steak with creamy mushroom sauce, grilled asparagus, chips and salad.

The wine pairings offered were:
2012 Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz
2013 Grant Burge Shadrach
2014 Wynns Black Label Cab Sav

A bit surprised by her selection:

Very lucky to taste the new 2019 vintage today which is about to be released tomorrow. It was also the last day Standish offer the full range for tasting as thexpect to sell out of Lamella in the next few days (Andelmonde wasn’t made this vintage).

Dan is about to launch new website for direct online purchase. It should be up tomorrow or the next day.
