was expecting a sunny day but dark and a bit cool, few friends came over and drink outdoor as planned.

Start with the New Zealand sparkling, it’s light , apples and some spices, creamy but dry.
The black beauty I couldn’t tell it is a barossa shiraz if I didn’t see the brand,it’s rich but not ripe ,black fruits and good amount of oak, not as dry as the quartz.maybe this is the answer to ripe shiraz? Sparkling makes it more balance.

This week finishing off with this odd couple.
Wynn’s black label cab. looks of average reviews when it first released, average year with some sort of frost damage. This aged quite well, light bodied , fruit jumps out everywhere, black fruits, berries ,shy leather hidden at the back,a little sweeter than the usual black labels.I still felt this is quite primary ,maybe it’s the screwcap doing its job.

Here’s my favourite blend, shiraz Pinot , the first vintage that I discover this blend , very likeable and I still do,probably the only reds that I like with oak in the hunter, very aromatic, creamy and cherries ,sweet plums, medium bodied. Yarra is trying to make this blend too, I can’t wait to try.

Tried the 2017 a few weeks ago and thought it excellent so bought another 6 of the 2018. Just opened. Fabulous aroma, great depth. Classic Pisa Range district terroir.

Funnily enough, I have 6 of the 2017 ;). Opened one last night for my friend and I to have with cheese after fresh grilled WA rock lobster (aka 'crays') and garlic prawns that were preceded by a Franck Bonneville Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne and accompanied with a Prova Aglianico Rosato. It went down very nicely - she passes on her compliments to the sommelier. ;)

Yes. You got the older ones. I have them as well but after talking to Samantha at Giant Steps, I decided on 6 of the 18s as well for me. They are the last ever vintages since they have sold the vineyard. One has to wonder why!

Haven‘t yet found out who bought it. Maybe it’s a housing estate now! Pity.

The Rosso opened up nicely after a 5 hr decant - quite delish. Didn't quite get the same result with the Viberti, felt dry and lack of fruit comparatively. Hoping a bit more time in the cellar helps bring out a bit more.

The Yalumba never disappoints (a BWS special at ~$24/btl IIRC ).

Didn’t realise AFFers were interested in Penfolds wineS, I came across a bargain* on Wednesday, was going to post but work got in the way and it was gone (Price corrected) when I got back to it.

*subjective I guess
Sad!

Che? Why not Penfolds? Have a cellar full.

Not everyone on AFF exclusively drinks bottom of the barrel stuff from discount sellers. 🐱 o_O

I forgot to add a Smug / bragging emojI......... :p
Their price to value ratio, with normal discounts is on the poor side though imo. I also have quite a few laying down but have not bought any for a few years (until Wednesday anyway)

I had planned on posting, I am doubting my order will actually be honoured, don’t want to get to excited just yet, but Still hopeful as the AP notification came through Tonight

Buona fortuna.

I get calls from Penfolds wine club promoting ”specials”. Often cheaper to wait a month or so and buy from Dan’s or Nick’s.

Some are getting more desperate so some good value available in some cases. Especially since they are being sued in the US again.
