Some recent drops from the cellar.
Stand out was the Craggy Range, 389 was as reliable as ever, the Pedregal was a very nice change (medium bodied, earthy blackberries, a little tart, structure OK, almost light), Pyrus was so much better than when I tried it a couple of years ago (it was a bit flat at the time) so I think it is starting to develop, the auslese was OK and enjoyable but no stand out.20190919_113708v3.jpg

Got introduced to Crowded Hour Mclaren vale shiraz this week. Very, very drinkable. $8 a bottle at First Choice.

Hi all, forgive me for this, but I do not have a photo - so will paste this:

I recently bought some of this via Qantas wines. This is not a plug for QF wines - have no idea but you can probably get it at a better price anywhere else.

The first night I tried it I loved it. Again tonight it is just as good. I am not like JohnM, etc with wondrous ability to describe a wine experience, but what I do know for certain is that this wine is something that I personally REALLY enjoy.

Having almost zero experience in Australian wines, can any of you enthusiasts suggest similar things I would like in Australia? I think I like blends - I like complexity. I like silky smooth finishes. Full bodied.

And am not interested in anything over about $60 - am a poor man :)

Vinomofo regularly have this each release at around $11.50 t0 $12.50. They also have their shiraz cabernet; cabernet and shiraz. Cheers Rug

In Goa, India tonight. Goa is the Indian capital of Indo/European fusion food (it was still a Portuguese territory until 1961, believe it or not).

This is by far the best Indian wine I’ve had here - and most have been very good.

The Sangiovese/Cab Sav works a treat. The blurb on the winelist says there’s also a touch of Cab Franc. I reckon that is a distinct possibility - it would neatly describe the excellent balance and softened spiciness. 13.5%. A cracker!

2400 Rs (about $50) in a top Goan resto. Just nuts value!

I’d like to bring a bottle home to share with @Daver6 to get a kid’s opinion 😜, but I’ve still got a couple of weeks to go in Sri Lanka, so it isn’t practical.

Mate, I think you may have discovered the hidden delights of GSM.

IMO, they generally fly below the radar for whatever reason (just a bit too non-conventional, maybe). That has to keep the price/quality quotient in the consumers’ favour.

Usually, just great easy-drinking and very versatile. If you’ve really enjoyed one, keep exploring GSMs is all I can say.

How did you like the Sigalis? Experienced it before?

Generally regarded as Santorini’s best producer of Assyrtiko.

First time experience for us, I think. Been to Greece a couple of times, but don’t recall having it. It was excellent.

Going with the paired wine can be a disaster, but the guys at Quay really know their stuff. They have two offers, we went with the premium pairing which I would recommend.
