Purchased as auction in 2011. I've had a bad run with corks of late but was pleasantly surprised when I stood this up in the cellar last night to find that I had taken it to a re-corking clinic in 2012. This is from 1996 which was an excellent vintage in the region. Alcohol only 13.5% and the wine is in excellent condition and drinking beautifully now.

Well i had a pleasant surprise tonight.Bought this bottle just to see if they could make a good wine as the owners boasted to me.

It was damn nice.A little sweeter than i'm use to but good body and velvety smooth.Had thrown a decent crust.
I just wish I was back in the Hunter still selecting the wines for the masked tasting at the wine club.Don't think anyone would think such a wine could be produced in Gladstone,QLD.

Continuing the clean up of my cellar and wines I should have drunk earlier. My gosh I had a good palate when I was young.A 44 years old Tyrrells Hunter Shiraz bottled for the Queens Silver Jubilee.Notes say would get better with 3-4 years of cellaring.Well this was cellared for 44 years.Yes past it's peak but delightful drinking.still a good colour and bouquet.Cork came out whole and very easy drinking.Really enjoyable.
