Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Another night, another restaurant in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

It would seem that Bagizagan is the only wine producer in Uzbekistan. This restaurant had their Cab Sav as well as the same Merlot we had last night, so we gave the CS a crack

Again, like the Merlot, light in body and ABV. Clearly Cab Sav. Astringent and better with the food. Simple, but acceptable.

A blend of the two would have exceeded the sum of the parts IMO.

Cost: 150,000 Som (c. $23) - plus 15% service charge, which is the typical level.

At the Hilton in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, now.

A very slurpable light bodied wine that went very nicely with very good (and spicy) food in the hotel’s Asian restaurant.

Interestingly, produced at San Juan which is north of Mendoza and is an area in Argentina that focusses on Shiraz.

A nice change from the lamb shishkebabs that have dominated the food choices in the Stans so far.

About 3 years ago we joined RooFlyer and other AFFers for his Tassie wine tour. One of our stops was at Freycinet Vineyards where I bought a couple of their stickies.
With friends over for dinner last night I found the perfect wine for the Apple pie.
It was really luscious. Just perfect

Errr, that’s different :p. Not rough or tannic. Not recognisable as Cab Sav and a bit sweet.
You should have gone with the Saperavi. Being a local drop they normally do it well

Opened two Houghton wines this weekend, both from their acclaimed Gladstones range.

While Cab Sav is considered king of the region in WA I was slightly more impressed by the Shiraz. Both excellent wines but I believe the CS needs more time to show its full potential.
