using QFspeak - it would seem to be a definite "enhancement"

Save your favorites to a USB key as a HTML page which you can open.
A USB Key? I have no idea what it is but possibly not everyone has one.

There is another issue that has appeared for me since the new domain name and it is drving me nuts.

On my laptop with IE8 I can no longer use the "remember me" feature. I have to log in everytime and even then I am not actually logged in per se but need to click on "today's posts", "discussion board" etc to actually be logged in and then use "New posts" feature. This also happens on the work PC which uses IE8.

Also AFF takes a little longer load and it would be appear to be the connection to Facebook even though I have no intention of using Facebook.

Also known as:
  • USB Memory Stick
  • USB Flash Drive
  • USB Jump Drive
  • USB Thingy

Few people seem to be able to exist without them these days. They are a standard item on many school book lists. There are usually at least 10 of them hanging around my office (two desks plus the kids homework table).

I also have a bunch of them lying around as I always seem to misplace them and have to dig another out :!:

I have only ever had two - my original 256 Mb model, and a larger one when some of my documents wouldn't fit on my first! Both still work.

Don’t use them, been given a couple as gifts when they come with strange designs, but the last one was 4GB so I simply put some diagnostic tools on it incase my mac ever goes AWOL and leave it in my bag.

I use wifi to transfer things.

I use a 1Gb for general transfers and a 16Gb for larger needs, such as the odd movie (since my netbook has no DVD drive.)

*nods* 256Mb is viable for sneakernet transfer of most documents and a few images. But for running a complete mobile applications suite, such as PortableApps which runs directly from and on the USB thumb drive, 2Gb is really the minimum.

I do not have any need for one. Just like I do not have any need for an iPhone, smartphone, pda or whatever you want to call them.

No need for a PDA? Do you stil use a Filofax?

As for my opinion of the new URL, it does make sense despite it being longer.

It's funny you should say that about PortableApps. May have had much to do with my need for a bigger drive.:p

I have/had multiple usb drives but since the acquisition of the iPad I havent touched them (in fact on the next business trip the laptop is being left behind ).

Strangely though I still use a paper diary sometimes as they can be easier to use to combine personal and work plans...

Don't believe in them. No need for most electronic gadgets including calculators. Everything I need is in my head including most phone numbers.

Mobile phone is all I need for now (and I could easily do without this as well) and one day I will purchase one of those thingy majiggys that calculates the distance from your current golf ball position to the flag.

A tape measure?

Leaving USB Memory sticks aside for the moment...

I have been following this thread with interest. ;)

I realise the new domain name is a bit long. For the vast majority of our users, this shouldn't make any difference as most visitors/members arrive at the site via a bookmark or by clicking on a link.

If you do type in the URL, I have set-up these short URLs which redirects to key pages: (Thanks notzac for this suggestion)

http://bit.ly/freqfly - redirects to our home page (The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community - The Australian Frequent Flyer)

http://bit.ly/getdaily - redirects to the "Get Daily" query
(http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/search.php?do=getdaily)

You can create your own shortcuts to specific AFF pages using various free web services. I like http://bit.ly/, but there are many other similioar services.

Regarding the response time: The change in domain name will have no impact on the performance of the server. I guess the server is doing more work in re-directing frequentflyer.com.au pages to the new page, so there might be slight delays. But as the new domain pages get indexed in the Search Engines, this effect will be reduced.

Regarding the ownership/use of the old domain name: We continue to have full ownership of frequentflyer.com.au. It hasn't been sold to anybody or any organisation. We will be using it to redirect to the new domain for at least 6 months.

Any news on the "Remember Me" feature?

On my laptop with IE8 I can no longer use the "remember me" feature. I have to log in everytime and even then I am not actually logged in per se but need to click on "today's posts", "discussion board" etc to actually be logged in and then use "New posts" feature. This also happens on the work PC which has Firefox and IE8.

It is extremely frustrating having to log in each time.

Thanks to admin for taking the time to respond and create the shortcut links.
