Personally i'd rather fly BNE-AKL-LAX than BNE-SYD-LAX anyday of the week.

Not a big fan of transferring in Sydney, though living on the Gold Coast, it's often easier to transit OOL-SYD-LAX than to fight the traffic to BNE.

TG
In theory I agree. However, if flying with QF, the BNE-AKL sector is likely to be a 734 or 73H aircraft. I did the BNE-AKL-LAX many, many times when QF25 routed that way.

Don;t understand the reference to "when QF 25 routed that way"- have been on 25 a few times over - ie MEL-LAX (via AKL). One time the toilets broke down progressively from MEl to AKL and then onto LAX but that's a story for over a beer!

And hopefully not too many were consumed en route! It's bad enough normally let alone with 1 out...

Was just looking at the website.

V Trendy! :D Or the sounds of it anyway.

But no OW miles...

Oh well.

In 1995 I travelled BNE-AKL on QF25 in J.

More here: Dang It! QF have switched Configs on me! - FlyerTalk Forums

It was around March 2006 when QF25/QF26 was rerouted MEL to/from AKL to/from LAX (rather than BNE).

The reference was to when QF25 operated BNE-AKL-LAX which is what it did before it changed to MEL-AKL-LAX a few years ago.

MEL/ADL/PER-SYD-LAX is at least a reasonable progression, and more or less in the right direction, but not so BNE-SYD-LAX.

While I can't see myself ever again visiting the US anyway, in the unlikely event that I did, BNE direct to LAX on QF15 for $2354 (Feb-Mar 09) in 12 hours 50 sounds a purgatory of a lot better than BNE-SYD-LAX for $2159 in 17 hours 45 with DJ/VA.

Spend five hours to save $195, the considerable annoyance of knowing you're actually going entirely in the wrong direction ...

Just another benefit for those unfortunates who are already over-compensated for tolerating life in Sin City.

At least a lot more miles are earned doing SYD-JFK-LAX.

There there, just you wait, one day BNE will be big enough to justify daily non-stops with F cabins... Maybe before the successor of the 787 has it's first flight, even?;)

What about for those of us who fly DJ/VA always? I'd quite happily take another 5 hours to be able to earn points that i can actually use...

Mind you i guess its the same AA/QF argument isnt it?
