And now, yes, here the waffly, Kogan which is one of the sim provider, says its IMIE # shows it overseas specs, so even though its VOLte, now have to spend $ to get a cheaper one from Officeoworks, has to be dual, so its now an outlay of $495 or so.
The Aus gov is very cunning, in the workings, with the providers, they would have made a financial k(lling from all of us who bought 4g phones, from ebay overseas sellers, thinking thats enough.
But nope to be able to call 000, its has to be to Aus specifications.
As if making millions from the shutdown of 3g to push people to 4g/5g is not enough, now have to get a new mobile (again), and it has to be made to Aus specifications, so those ebay ones in the end, in a few months, will be no good.
Yes, I did call Kogan up, and they said, it all relies on the IMIE #.
You might get an sms if you are with Kogan, or another provider.

I'm not quite sure what the post is about. If this is about the new standards for mobiles in Australia, theres plenty of discussion about it in places like whirlpool, reddit and even places like OzB.

Its been like this for a few years now. Importing phones on your own to Australia is now a dyor to make sure it works with the network. I remember going through this song and dance when I was helping my wife decide her previous phone.

What a load of rubbish from the OP, tries to save a few pennies by buying overseas phones and then claims the government is making a motza by insisting said phones are locked out of the local networks!
You are breaking the law by using a phone on a network in Australia without the regulatory compliance mark, full stop.
