I managed to secure priority boarding at the Sydney Premiere. And the "ticket" was a bronze (!?) medal.
Cool night. Great film. Awesome on the big screen.

Familiar faces in unfamiliar roles.
* "Bill Weasley" one of the Weasley twins from Harry Potter as General Hux.
* "Carson" from Downton Abbey as the scrap metal merchant.
* "James Bond" Daniel Craig as the Stormtrooper (yes, SpongBob).

Never would have picked Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) as Maz.
Couldn't pick Warwick Davis, Simon Pegg.

I wanted to cheer out loud with sheer joy as the music started and the text started to scroll down the screen.

A real SW tragic (worse than his father), #1 son went to midnight premiere, 9.30pm Thursday session, then yesterday with whole family and all my three sons are going again tomorrow evening.

Mrs C and I will go again Boxing Day or thereabouts. But, geez, was the cinema cold (Crown). Next time I take a sweater.

The andyes & MIL went over the weekend. Very fun enjoyable film with more 'realistic' production than the prequels.

Mrs andye said it was the best she'd seen but I thought the plot rehash factor meant it only scraped in at 3 for me (I am a tragic, she's not).

The M rating may be a worry for some-my 3 year-old fell asleep but my 7 year-old was fine (he did feel sad/shocked at the appropriate place). MIL liked it too (in her 60s)

It was good, enjoyed it and would see again.

Although the same story as the 1977 Star Wars (which I saw in the cinema, yes that old) it was done well and special effects while CGI they did build a few sets and models from what I have read to keep the feel right which is better than the first three.

People in Sydney might consider seeing it at Cremorne, check the session times so you can hear the John Williams score on the organ before it drops through the stage floor, a class act in itself.

I think Han Solo should have continued right through this movie and next two, there being 9 movies all up in the Star Wars set.

Well it took up the story right after where I was upto in the "fan fiction" books. There are a whole series of books about what happened immediately after the emperor's death. Luke starting up a Jedi academy, Leia with young children needing training, Luke trying to train Leia. Also chasing off after a sith devotee. So this movie has sort of taken started after all that happened, in fact after it was much advanced.

I thought the rehash was required to bring in the comparison with their predecessors. Luke's daughter being stronger that her father or grandfather, and also naturally turning away from the Dark side. Also seeing that with the battle to stick to the dark side. Vader to Luke; give into your feelings, turn to the dark side. Now we see "don't give into your feelings, stay on the dark side."

I can see similarities in the story, but it's not the same story.

Also I don't see this as a remake like Star Trek was. BTW is Simon Pegg the first actor to be in both Star Trek and Star Wars? If so, I think some one crossed the beams.

I couldn't pick Simon Pegg: where/who was he? Or Warwick Davis, for that matter?

Daniel Craig was easy to pick by his voice.

Pegg was the big alien junk dealer, Unkar Plutt, who tried to buy BB-8 for food

He had made it clear he wanted out before RotJ. I guess we could still get 'voices' a la Obi-Wan.

It was still good to have him for this one at least.

I was very disappointed in in this film. A poor man's Episode IV.

Coincidence upon coincidence, plot holes galore, I mean how come the Empire builds these death stars that are so easily destroyed.

I liked Daisy Ridley’ performance as Rey, however she somehow managed to be a top mechanic, establish control of the Force, and wield a light saber all in the space of 120 minutes.

Kylo Ren was laughable.

Harrison Ford was excellent however.

I can’t believe it is getting such rave reviews… pandering to the might of Disney?

You never heard the saying "Build it fast, build it cheap, build it right........... now pick any two"?

D* mk2 was built in ~20 years so they hadn't ironed out all the bugs and more importantly they had an over-inflated sense of its invincibility (think WW2's Bismarck).

Ignore and sidestep the plot holes and go along for the wild ride.

I went to see SW yesterday at the Cathay on Orchard Road in Singapore. Rocked up five minutes before screening, paid SGD8.00 retail (plus SGD2.90 for a Coke Zero) and the cinema had a total of about 12 people.

Entertaining but certainly no cinematic masterpiece. I like how the MF was not used 'for a number of years' and was fully fuelled and able to fly at light speed with no preparation or maintenance.

Well it's not owned by Jetstar.

I actually quite liked it. Great escapism.
Indeed I liked it the best since the first.

Certainly not a Masterpiece...but seriously who would expect it to be?

Seems like a reasonable trade off, the bigger the destruction the greater the vulnerability.

As for Daisy, that goes to my comment about being stronger than her father and grandfather in the force. Both of who were excellent pilots because of their force ability. Both of who mastered the force quickly. It also seems that Han's son isn't that strong in the force, perhaps by being on the wrong side (as per being pulled back to the light side). As for being a top mechanic, she has survived on that planet since age about 7 by savaging parts from a star destroyer and selling them for food. Not to mention at some point being involved with the enhancements to the Falcon.

Deathstar 2 wasn't complete, Fly in the side and blow it up - easy.

The deathstar is a massive plot hole. D* mark I took 20 odd years to build. From Luke's birth until he was 19/20. D* two was operational, but not fully built in, what 5 to 10 years? How long was Luke's training with Yoda? I don't think 20 years. So they just whipped up the second one in next to no time. Still I suppose they had the tools already...
