New QF A380 reconfiguration!!!

Just flew new config LHR-SIN in row 32. I am 6 foot and I was not happy with it. There is no cutout. I actually moved to the row behind as I could stretch out a lot more under the seat in front. The row is similar to bulkhead row 50 on old config - I've not sat in those seats before, but never liked the look of them. Row 32 would be ok if you are under 5 foot 8 i reckon.Will post pics later, as the wifi in the lounge is useless.Mini cabin is nice though. Bit chaotic for crew doing 2 service for Y and PE out of same galley. Hope this helps...
 
How full was the upstairs Y cabin compared to downstairs Y cabin? (If you braved going downstairs..)

Can anyone who has flown the new configuration comment on these seats?

One does wonder how much noisier can the 8 people in row 32 be than the 7 in row 27? With only 30 people in the Y cabin what is the difference between them and the 35 in the Y+ cabin? Slightly more dense, but really not that much different.

Thanks for the Pics, it looks like there is a reasonable partition in front of row 32.

As Dajop said you have to wonder how much nosier it would be. At least with Upper Deck Y mostly blocked you'd get a better class of Y passenger up there ;)

I have sat in row 50 before - it has been fine for me.

Thanks to TheInsider the for the images - certainly row 50 type space - for me it looks to be a goer + ½ storage to the side..

I'm 6' but have a small backside so my hips are closer to the seat back than others may be ...

yes, i know that....but the pics of the Y/C cabin UPSTAIRS have the larger thicker red blankets and larger white pillows on the every seat..these are usually only supplied in the P/Y and J/C cabins...the 'normal' Y/C blankets/pillows are the grey ones!!!
 
Ah my mistake sorry.
all good..i thought for a moment maybe ALL Y/C had changed to the thicker red blankets and bigger white pillows..now THAT would be a TRUE ENHANCEMENT!! :shock: (although not likely..it would be rather costly)
 
I wouldn't count on that continuing consistently - IME, such is often a mistake made by the staff settiing things up-they may not have been told about changes to process and which seats get what.

I experienced such when QF7/QF8 were being operated by the older 4 class configuration and I could get an exit row 36 which was a PE seat allocated to economy.

The first times I received PE Blankets, Pillows and n/c headphone - the latter it was with the economy versions.

i've noticed that as well..over the years when there have been 'cosmetic config changes', the cabin dressing staff 'dress the seat to suit that seat' not the actual class it is sold as..changes can take some time to filter through the ranks!!!
 
Now that you say that, i have to double check if it is Y and not Y+ :)

From the photos, there are two rows photographed before a door behind the last row. According to the new A380 seat map, that means it can only be Y, not Y+. Moreover to that, the seats are in 2-4-2 layout (Y+ is 2-3-2).

So someone's just put the wrong kinds of blankets and pillows on the seats! Oh well, if it happens to you - score!


Having sat in the old 50A before, I'm only 172cm tall but I still find it a wee bit cramped for my liking. It's not completely limiting, but that said I've sat in 40A on a 4-class QF 747 and the leg room is great there (and that seat also has a solid bulkhead wall).

I can see the nice advantage of the 2-row Y in the rear (before the other 2.5 rows of Y behind it). If the "best legroom Y seats" are all taken, for a little privacy the UD Y may make for a nice choice (unless you don't take the possible increased turbulence very well). UD Y is also 2-4-2 compared to 3-4-3 on the main deck, which makes it a bit more friendly for couples (and singles, too, since you only have to climb over / be climbed over by 1 person, not 2).

So apart from possibly a bad curry attack incident across the entire aircraft, this new config may not be a complete disaster after all......
 
Such a shame they didn't put in a bulkhead like the one on the refurbed 747s in front of row 43. They'd be incredible seats then.
The curve gives you full stretch and the Y+ row in front can fully recline.

Are you suggesting that the back row of Y+ doesn't fully recline? That would be more of an issue for me than noisy Y.

No. The bulkhead curves inward to allow full recline while also giving extra leg room. It's like a modern version of the cut out.
