Try a different time that's cheaper and show up for the 6 AM flight. Simples. Remember you did not purchase a seat on a specific flight but a bundle of rights.
There is no guarantee that the passenger would be let on. The flight may well be sold out by then of course, or a non flex fare may not be allowed to change (even same day) to an earlier flight even under airport control. Standby perhaps but in no way would it be guaranteed. Even officially P1 can only do same day changes on flex fares (reality has been different in my experience though). Sure, when flights are under airport control many things are possible, but far from guaranteed.

Not a way I would handle a situation of pricing on a flight being not what I wanted.

QF Loyalty have no say or bearing on either pricing or revenue management functions of the airline. To suggest the CEO of Loyalty can have any influence is pretty far fetched. In fact the only time they MAY listen to Loyalty is in terms of providing allocation of reward seats, and I bet those are constant and ongoing battles between the two "sides."

Plus, let's face it, maximising yield is what all airlines do. It's what QF is aiming for every. single. time. No senior manager in the company will argue against that absolute core policy.

At least not until loyalty earns so much more money that flying exists only to be the carrot for the loyalty team.
 
It's all about price elasticity. Demand and supply are both affected by price elasticity. Some products are price inelastic and others highly price elastic,
And I think we'll find shortly that QFF has jumped onto this bandwagon and priced its rewards accordingly (as many airlines already have).

Better spend your points while you can or you might be disappointed. After all, it will be an enhancement that will please Qantas customers.

However there is a trade-off between revenue management and loyalty
Raise the prices too high and you lose customers as noted by this letter to the editor

So there’s Three things about QF customers
1. Many don’t pay the work fares but do pay leisure fares and will cop the “extra” if it helps get higher status level
2. Having finished up needing to have a job, how many of these keep flying QF when they have to 100% pay their own way ? From the sounds of it not so many
3. The example in the letter of higher airfares is what I copped too. Caused by lower capacity so many more people vying for the same seats and once the “cheap seats” sold out as they would, having to pay more than what they might have in the past. Plus the price being inflated as well meant a double whammy of uplift (think of it as foreign transaction fees, and exchange rate arbitrage)

The loyalty management must have had some sway already given the lengthier period of time the lower J fares have been “on the market” usually these are one off sales but I note they have been on-going for an extended time period (the J $449 fares syd to melb or Bris etc)
 
imo that letter to the editor is a bit silly. How on earth is it "deceptive"? They went to use a credit for $x and wanted to redeem for flights at the current rate. You can't compare fares from pre-COVID to whatever they are now. I'm struggling to see how this is "deceptive" - it's like they expected if they paid $10k for the flights in 2019, they expected to have zero difference in 2024? That at the very least would be naive.

However, the more general point regarding "loyalty" (as opposed to QF Loyalty, which this thread is about) is something else. We each have choices (and the couple in the example letter exercised theirs). Or in the ADL-SYD example, while I hadn't looked at what VA or JQ are charging for tomorrow morning, but perhaps cheaper options there and they could be had even within 24 hours of travel.

As many here often have discussed, chosing BFOD is an absolutely viable option. I certainly agree with that as a strategy.

The price point for one finding value with sticking with ANY brand they are "loyal" to (for any reason) is subjective to each person - no matter the product or service. I mean I have grocery brands I prefer, but only to a degree of price points (or I'll wait for a sale on certain treat foods) - the same can and does apply to things like flights.

I still contend that individual flight or route pricing has nothing to do with QF Loyalty (the company unit). Yes, QF Loyalty's job is to try and keep those handcuffs on, and for many it works via the whole QF ecosystem (and even note in the letter posted, they went for a oneworld option - going to guess MH or JL - I await the sequal letter about poor FF/SC earn on the flights because "deception" - and that argument actually has somewhat more basis in reality imo - but anyway they STILL showed loyalty to QF by deliberately picking OW partners either to use QF benefits and/or redeem some).
 
Price has dropped by $452 to $636

For S&G I had another look. M class was opened at $536.

I find it fascinating actually. OT to this thread, but shows just how things can change, specially close in.

Maybe there were cancels opening up space, maybe QF's YM rulws were off for that flight and this has regigged it a bit (I saw VA wide open on their 0600).
 
Hopefully they might start paying the points, you are lucky if you receive 30% of the points when you buy from the Qantas partners, its the worlds biggest BS program, god knows how much qantas is skimming from this, its a lot and I am surprised they haven't been sued for it.

Ps. I have a Qantas credit card I use a lot, I do get the points from this, as the for partners, you never get them, even when you complain to the Qantas big black hole....

Can you give examples ? What do you mean by "Partners"?

Do you mean Qantas shopping?

There have been issues in the past where the purchase through the shopping portal is not registered for some technical issue with a browser or something I know (not an excuse, just trying to find an explanation).

When you say you're using a QF earning CC but not getting points do you have examples? Some things like gov payments (eg ATO) are excluded by many cards - could there be something like that going on?
